Cork has the most by a long shot I think. Well over 200. MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13693 - 02/08/2016 17:40:59 1894175 Link 0 |
They're usually included in the GAA annual reports - or were up until a few years ago at least. if_in_doubt (Kildare) - Posts: 3685 - 02/08/2016 17:43:15 1894179 Link 0 |

This from 2009 24 -- Number of affiliated GAA clubs in Longford; the smallest of any county, but just two less than Sligo. 108 -- Number of affiliated GAA clubs in both Antrim and Limerick, which makes them the joint third highest in the country. 215 -- Number of affiliated GAA clubs in Dublin, second highest in the country. 260 -- Number of affiliated GAA clubs in Cork in 2008, the highest in the country. 834 -- Number of affiliated clubs in Leinster last year. 2,319 -- Number of affiliated GAA clubs on the island of Ireland in 2008. 2,610 -- Number of affiliated GAA clubs in the world last year. There is no way on earth that there are 215 GAA clubs in Dublin. It'd be closer to 100. That figure must be counting some clubs that having separate hurling and football committees as 2 clubs. MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13693 - 02/08/2016 20:24:12 1894277 Link 0 |
Longford have 23 clubs as of this year with Moydow Harper's amalgamating with St. Patrick's. Next year could see that reduced to 22 with Shroid Slashers and St. Munis possibly folding as both teams were unable to field for majority of league games. St. Munis folded in 2015 and came back in reserve league football but have only fielded for one game o think. Shroid were folding this year but after an EGM decided to give it a go this year. A lot of heavy defeats ended with the concession of a lot of games towards the end of the league. Can't see either team fielding next year bringing Longford's total clubs down to 22 of which 13 are classed as senior which is a joke!! 40 football clubs and 1 stand alone hurling club in Donegal. Not a high number considering the population and size of the county. Bain (Donegal) - Posts: 470 - 02/08/2016 20:41:25 1894290 Link 0 |
My maths ain't the best!! For both clubs fold next year Longford will only have 21 clubs. Spinx (Longford) - Posts: 1232 - 02/08/2016 20:42:25 1894291 Link 0 |
Cork has the most by a long way. We have about 160, I would say. It is a hard number really to state exactly as there some clubs like Kilmeen/Kilbree that are counted as two but ultimately just the same club. There are loads of examples of this throughout the county. There is also a standalone club like Laochra Og that pulls from 5 football clubs and there are numerous underage amgamations that are also counted as 'clubs'. bennybunny (Cork) - Posts: 3917 - 02/08/2016 22:02:35 1894345 Link 0 |
I can't believe I've only just heard of a team call Shroid Slashers and they're on the verge of folding.

Which Counties in Ireland have the most Club members? I did some research last year, and found that some of the Counties in Ulster that have a low number of Clubs, actually have a massive amount of club members. GaryMc82 (Derry) - Posts: 3017 - 02/08/2016 23:29:37 1894417 Link 0 |
