Heartiest congrats, sincere respect. If Mayo overcome Tyrone I would definitely back ye to make the final. I wont lie lads, i wouldnt be a huge fan of Tipp hurlers but i have nothing but respect and admiration for the Tipperary footballers. If we dont win it, I hope and suspect ye will. Well done lads. Liam If Tipp can make a game of the semi final it will be great, we just don't have the panel to go any further. therealtmo (Tipperary) - Posts: 1292 - 01/08/2016 13:17:11 1893476 Link 0 |
Unbelievable achievement from Tipp footballers to make the All-Ireland semi final. MourneArmy (Down) - Posts: 1787 - 01/08/2016 13:53:47 1893494 Link 0 |
Is Clonmel the nucleus/home of Tipp football? I know the Commercials had a great year last year and Moyle Rovers are just a wee bit north of the town. Also Fethard and Ardfinnan aren't to far away either. doubletree (Dublin) - Posts: 164 - 01/08/2016 14:42:21 1893528 Link 0 |
Don't forget there's a few Tyrone lads who have settled well in Tipperary!!! Not naming names but a former Tyrone County Minor married a Tipp lass from my home town!! A sound lad in fairness and has settled well in the Premier County. Also I know another former Tyrone Minor was training with Tipp up to last year if I recall. That U21 final wont have any bearing with the Tipp lads Tyrone were the better team on that day and I think our lads have grown up since then. Liam Keirins Im sure wont use that as motivation cos to be me I certainly wouldn't. Plus we met them last year in Thurles and there was a certain edge to the game more so in the second half when Tipp lost their cool few black cards and a red. McCurry was on fire that day. Generally Tipp and Tyrone don't meet often in the championship likewise with Mayo. We played them in a qualifier in 2002 so the semi final will be a novice pairing. Doubletree it sure is as well been the home of Bulmers. Louth played their first ever qualifier against Tipp in Clonmel in 2001. It was also the first ever match in the qualifiers.

Seen as this seems to be the thread for everyone to learn a little about Tipp football does anyone know why so many of their clubs have 'Rovers' in their name? Or what the background is to 'Commercials'? Soma (UK) - Posts: 2630 - 01/08/2016 15:35:56 1893560 Link 0 |
It would be given Tipp played football games almost since the beginning of GAA days there. Note to take though only 1 Clonmel Commericals player on the starting 15 yesterday and given they won a Munster Club this year you'd think there be more. However there are great clubs North and South of Clonmel who are just as football minded as Clonmel. Ardfinnan , Fethard , Ballyporeen , Kilsheelin Kilcash , Killenaule , Moyle Rovers and then look further away and you'd have from the Mid Loughmore and Drom Inch who are two hurling strongholds but lately winning County Senior and Intermediate football titles in Tipperary. On the up and coming Minor and U21 teams you see more and more players from the Mid and North divisions on the starting 15. All to do with our great underage structure. There are some people in Tipp who have poured their lives into Tipp football and its great to see them get reward like yesterday. From Commercials, there was one starter and two on the bench yesterday. Two lads chose to go to the US this summer. Seamus Kennedy is in the Hurling side and was not allowed dual. It actually makes Tipp's performance this year all the more remarkable when you consider that in total, the Tipp footballers have lost 11 players from last years panel through various reasons... such as Colin O'Riordan who's playing AFL in Oz and Steven O'Brien who, like Seamus Kennedy, is also on the Hurling panel. fyfe79 (Tipperary) - Posts: 3 - 01/08/2016 18:04:16 1893660 Link 0 |
Actually ,18 players in total lost when you consider moving to hurling, USA Bound , AFL Bound, Retired and Injured. One player personally decided to opt off the panel and he was a regular past few seasons.

I'd imagine with all them players back they could probably win the whole thing out, pretty impressive really.

I am currently writing this post from south Tipp as the Gf's home town is down here...and to think I used to joke with her saying our counties will never meet anyway and if they did I thought we'd blow any Tipp team out of the water. Now look at the state of affairs.I wouldn't put money on us or Mayo to beat them to be honest.Any one of the three of us could go on to the final.
