This seems to be the new mandatory injury time no matter what has happened in the game. The ulster final had 6 minutes, while there were no stoppages at all. Same with the donegal cork game yesterday. Now the 2 quarters today. It is a bizarre addition and will not add to the game, it may even handicap a team in the end who pick up a card or an injury in needless stoppage time when legs are leaden. Cop on GAA. Ya donegalman They add 30 seconds for every sub and 30 seconds for goalies going up to take frees plus what ever ordinary injuries you'd have in the game. KingdomBoy1 (Kerry) - Posts: 14092 - 31/07/2016 17:51:46 1892946 Link 0 |
Yep, it'll will be 5/6 mins from now on! realdub (Dublin) - Posts: 8571 - 31/07/2016 18:02:21 1892961 Link 0 |
We have played a total 40 minutes of injury time (I'm including 1st and 2nd half here) this year in 5 games.. with most of those games going right down to the wire in hard fought games. HandballRef (Donegal) - Posts: 520 - 31/07/2016 18:05:57 1892972 Link 0 |

We've been waiting 81 years to get back to an all Ireland semi final. Another 6 minutes wasn't that long. Killarney.87 (Tipperary) - Posts: 2513 - 31/07/2016 18:13:34 1892996 Link 1 |
Yeah it's crazy that they finally sorted out the time wasting issue.

Its not injury time, its additional time. Additional time allows for extra time to be played for numberous reasons including injuries, subs etc. That 40 minutes you talk about, is 40 minutes of time where the game was stopped. Your team weren't running around for an extra 40 minutes. waynoI (Dublin) - Posts: 13650 - 31/07/2016 18:15:32 1892999 Link 0 |

Not being snarky but it's the same for the opponent as well

Injury time/additional time - you know what I mean. My point might be lost on some but if you actually audited the games I was talking about, you would see that there were barely any stoppages for injury or additional time. Of course there should be additional time when it is required, but when it isn't, what's the point?? Donegalman (None) - Posts: 3830 - 31/07/2016 18:52:21 1893038 Link 0 |
Think it's great to be honest. When players dilly dally, and keepers saunter up at their leisure to take frees wasting maybe 2 mins they will know that it's being added on so their time wasting might become less common. That's all teams too cos they all do it when it suits. seanie_boy (Tyrone) - Posts: 4235 - 31/07/2016 18:57:22 1893043 Link 0 |
Gave Tyrone enough time to finally slay the Dragon as Cassidy put it. I do think Donegal should have had to pay for trying to run the clock down from half time, it's inappropriate in any sport except sports where one score is the difference i.e. Soccer Seansy48 (Tyrone) - Posts: 237 - 31/07/2016 19:02:11 1893050 Link 0 |
Oh wise up. Keeping the ball isn't running the clock down. It's 15 v 15 so if you went man to man then we wouldn't have been able to pass the ball around so easy.

Tyrone could have come out of the trenches in the 2nd half, we were silly to try and poke holes in the 15 man wall. I think holding onto the ball was a fair enough strategy, but we should have shot from distance more. Big lesson was learned from this as was on show yesterday v cork, so many thanks for that! In any event, I am not suggesting that this thread is directly to do with the ulster final. I am sure that Tyrone would have made their move earlier than the 70th minute if they didn't anticipate the extra time at the end. I suppose it is early days for this new system of time keeping. But there are potential grievances waiting to happen as a result of this. Donegalman (None) - Posts: 3830 - 31/07/2016 19:27:25 1893070 Link 0 |
It's 6 minutes of play that the people who paid in are entitled to see. About time. conordee (Galway) - Posts: 440 - 31/07/2016 19:28:46 1893071 Link 0 |
The extra time is to make up for the time that you didn't play because of stoppages. I would imagine that there is at least 15 to 20 min in every game when the ball is not in play. About time the GAA started to do something about it.

If you count the seconds that the ball is out of play in a half of football (injuries, free kicks, line balls, kick outs etc.) it probably adds up to more than 6 minutes.

What are you talking about man?? Sure the Matty Donnelly black card took about 4 minutes in itself while Eoin McHugh was seen to by medical staff! Were you at the game at all?? KennellyAirways (Tyrone) - Posts: 33 - 31/07/2016 20:27:48 1893111 Link 0 |
