Refs have come in for a lot of criticism this summer. If you could choose the ref for your county''s c'ship game, who would you choose? I have no problem deciding who I would not want to ref my county in a c'ship game but find it more difficult to pick one I would want. I think I might go with Coldrick neverright (Roscommon) - Posts: 1648 - 29/07/2016 20:19:47 1892104 Link 0 |
I always feel the best referees are the ones you don't remember.

This is actually quite difficult. I can tell u who the worst is - P Hughes!! Look it's a difficult job but surely more training is needed for them or extra support on the pitch. Brolly (Monaghan) - Posts: 4472 - 29/07/2016 20:45:47 1892111 Link 0 |

Marty Duffy best referee by a country mile. Takes no nonsense Mullerm (Cork) - Posts: 87 - 29/07/2016 22:00:26 1892131 Link 0 |
Definitely. Maybe one umpire on each side should be a referee, would have more authority and respect from players then an ordinary individual who currently does the job.

Ciarán Brannigan from my own county ?? He has done a few high profile matches and to be honest he is one of the few refs who doesn't be talked about on the Sunday game ! So that in itself is a good sign topdownfan (Down) - Posts: 555 - 29/07/2016 22:34:01 1892142 Link 0 |
Best ref is David gough second is Marty Duffy. KingdomBoy1 (Kerry) - Posts: 14092 - 29/07/2016 23:07:34 1892155 Link 1 |
Golderick looked to have upped his game in Tyrone v cavan replay but in the Ulster Fina it seemed he was back to his old self. More bad than good and thats bad news for the GAA. border Gael (Monaghan) - Posts: 894 - 30/07/2016 00:34:52 1892170 Link 0 |
Coldrick the best around at moment I'd say. Dubh_linn (Dublin) - Posts: 2312 - 30/07/2016 09:14:32 1892198 Link 0 |

the standard of refereeing has been poor this year but i blame these knee jerk rule changes more than the refs for that. Pat McEnanney was the last top ref imo, but i do wonder if id be saying that if he was still active today. SaffronDon (Antrim) - Posts: 2385 - 30/07/2016 13:26:22 1892263 Link 0 |
Our own Paddy Neilan is a pretty good young ref. Very consistent but perhaps to pocky at times. In charge of Donegal Cork today so will be a good test for him. Douglas_Hyde (Roscommon) - Posts: 90 - 30/07/2016 13:50:07 1892270 Link 0 |
Best two refs by some distance are David Gough, and David coldrick , unfortunately both are Meath men and can never ref us. Outside of that? Very few are not anti Meath, which is a pity. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 30/07/2016 14:41:02 1892280 Link 0 |

David Gough in football. Never notice the hurling refs as much which can only be a good thing. Pericles (Mayo) - Posts: 2521 - 30/07/2016 15:26:34 1892288 Link 0 |
Ah ! So that's the problem.

Never said it was, so dont know where you got that from. But I've two words for you. Andy McEntee. We will see how smug you are next year. Hon the Royal. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 30/07/2016 16:46:37 1892316 Link 0 |
I think it's laughable that coldrick is seen by some posters here as the best ref. he has had a litany of poor performances this year.
