The New GAA

Has the GAA got 2 types of supporters now. One who supports the county only and one who supports both Club and county. County Man wants his big day out in Thurles, Clones or Croke park and couldn't give a toss if the clubs never finish out their season as his is over when the county team are knocked out. Club man wants his county to do well but knows that he is going to be coaching/playing into the depths of the winter if they do well.

There's a 3rd.

Club man, county give a toss about the county team. Sooner they're out the better (at all age groups) so as they get those players back.

Many of this type existed in my club in Meath. I'd suggest it is the same in many counties where there isn't a strong pull towards the county team.

Curraha

Won Leinster junior last year.

For the final of that I'd say they'd 9 under 21s starting another 4 under 24.

They'd good young players coming through for a number of years. Usually having 3 Meath minors, who'd have been strong starters for the club team.

These guys wouldn't be realeased for the club whilst still in the minors, not all of them getting a game.

It wouldn't have been so bad except Meath championship typically had 3 rounds played by the May bank holiday. So there were a number of times we were effectively out of championship before the summer had even begun.

A few of the older guys wouldn't be happy about this. I can understand why. We'd an excellent juvenile set up that should've been feeding our club teams. We also then had a history of losing top players to other clubs as they didn't want to be stuck playing junior.
