Cathal O'Connor Red Card

(Oldest Posts First)

As poor of a sending off as I've seen in a long time. The same thing happens all the time in every match and it's always a yellow

It was a harsh red but in fairness to the ref it looked a lot worse from the camera angle which would have been his viewpoint.

It was always going to be evened out though.

Clare should appeal this red card. Was probably a yellow at most for being somewhat high and mistimed but never ever a straight red. Roscommon player in fairness was straight to his feet so actual significant contact was fairly minimal.

Agreed, CCCC should review this & rescind it, a yellow is really all that was required. Don't hold your breath though if you expect common sense to prevail.

Like most things in that game, the referee was poor

Should get rid of the red card altogether and let the game flow if refs are going take mistakes

I'm glad it was rescinded but when was the last time a county were unsuccessful with an appeal?

Everytime I see this happen I think the GAA are hanging the referees out to dry. There doesn't seem to be anything done to improve the level of officiating at championship matches.

I am a broken record on this one but the GAA needs to nearly over train referees, linemen and in particular umpires.

This was the correct decision on this occasion but you are right, a lot of appeals that have seen red cards and suspensions recinded in recent years have been wrong decisions. In fairness I think the CCC are sticking to their guns a bit more this year than before. Donegal had an appeal rightly turned down for Neil McGee's red card V Fermanagh. They could take a leaf out of the Premier League going forward, if a silly appeal is made the suspension is increased or the county board get a heafty fine. It may stop some of the teams appealing for the sake of it.
