Are Galway really one of the teams that can actually put a fight up to Dublin oakleafersir (Derry) - Posts: 808 - 19/07/2016 11:11:51 1886106 Link 0 |
They don't have the calibre of player of the '98 and '01 winners but Walsh and his players have learned and improved in every championship game. There'll be a lot less pressure on them than on Dublin so they might get within 4 points of them. GreenandRed (Mayo) - Posts: 7342 - 19/07/2016 11:46:17 1886139 Link 0 |

No , not a chance, there is only one team that can beat Dublin.. Mayo. They have it all.. and all their injured players are back!! Belclare1 (Galway) - Posts: 1626 - 19/07/2016 13:36:12 1886275 Link 2 |
Anything is possible now having got out of Connaught and will certainly cause major problems for anyone they come up against. Dubh_linn (Dublin) - Posts: 2312 - 19/07/2016 14:15:52 1886322 Link 0 |
Aren't they both in the QF?

I don't think for a minute Galway can win an All Ireland this year but I keep hearing Galway beat Mayo on an off day, it looks like they've had another 2 off days since. At what stage does and off day become the norm? I haven't seen anything from Mayo to suggest there as good as last year. TheWestIsAwake (UK) - Posts: 529 - 19/07/2016 14:25:06 1886333 Link 1 |
One swallow.. Tyrone/qualifier v Galway/qualifier is the semi-final pairing. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 7838 - 19/07/2016 14:53:50 1886369 Link 0 |
Not yet but they have started a comeback no doubt. Galway at this stage remind me a bit of Mayo in 2011. We were not on any radar that year even for Connacht after bombing out to Longford the year before. A semi final appearance along with Connacht would be a great year for Galway at this stage of team development....? yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11229 - 19/07/2016 14:54:33 1886371 Link 0 |
Galway certainly looked good in the few miserable minutes RTE bothered to show last Sunday night. They seem to have a lot of pace in the team which is a must.I'dont see them as a threat to Dublin though, not this year. Condorman (Dublin) - Posts: 983 - 19/07/2016 15:44:05 1886411 Link 0 |
Teams had a lot of off days against Galway in '98 and '01 too! ;-) baire (Galway) - Posts: 1788 - 19/07/2016 16:40:46 1886480 Link 0 |
Are you sure about that ? Seems more likely that Galway and Kerry are on same side of draw seeing as they are both playing on same day July 31?

Mayo didn't have an off day.. Galway bet them fair and square.. Galwaymaster9 (Galway) - Posts: 395 - 19/07/2016 17:15:46 1886502 Link 2 |
Seems you have it spot on despite the logic of the fixture list https://crokepark.ie/match-day/2016-season-fixtures Surely it would have made sense to have the winners of first weekend playing in semis? Now if Tyrone/An Other draw the first day Aug 6th they would be out 3 weeks running..6th/13th/21st conordee (Galway) - Posts: 440 - 19/07/2016 17:23:22 1886513 Link 0 |
Maybe, maybe not. The reality is it is history either way. Galway need to drive on and see where it takes them. Maybe with a bit of luck for all concerned you will get to prove your theory later in the year.

Belclare1 - not true all our injured players are back. Our first choice full back is out for year as is Jason Gibbons who started midfield v Galway. Mfs (Mayo) - Posts: 251 - 19/07/2016 18:03:27 1886548 Link 0 |
Galway's aim is to win a game in Croke Park first and possibly reach an All Ireland semi-final. Dublin are on a different level currently although the missing players might bring them back towards the chasing pack a little. Galway are on the right track though but maybe lack a little depth to challenge. Need a few players back from the US next year as they rely a lot on their starting 15 at the moment.
