It will be interesting to see the quarter final breakdown. I'd give Clare and Cork good chances of progressing especially with Roscommon having 6 a day turn around and Donegal have racked up some tough matches so far. Killarney.87 (Tipperary) - Posts: 2513 - 18/07/2016 18:47:31 1885799 Link 0 |
Derry and the rossies will beat there munster counterparts with ease. Munster football is shocking, no winners outside cork kerry in the province since 1992. YAWN. 222 (UK) - Posts: 691 - 18/07/2016 19:05:28 1885808 Link 0 |
It depends on what way you want to look at it. While the Munster final pairing is often predictable, it's often the only all Division 1 final. The Munster final is often the hardest to predict the outcome of. There has been two all Munster All-Ireland finals. The other 4 have to get to a fairly decent level where as they might make provincial finals more often in some of the other provinces.

That's just a snapshot analysis of one point in time with no accounting for any external factors and just concentrating purely on results. It is possible that Munster teams (just choosing them as they have the highest representation) in reaching this stage of the championship played weaker opposition or opposition that were weak on a particular day (due to injuries, suspensions, quick turnaround etc.) or had home advantage or conditions suited them or they had a good rest in between games or any combination of those factors. Alternately, they could have simply been the better team and deserved to win. The only way you can realistically judge the performance of a province is over a period of years to establish whether there is a trend of a higher percentage of their teams reaching a certain stage of the championship. Maybe if in 5 years time, Munster teams were consistently reaching this stage or Roscommon and Galway were consistent performing well then you could draw such a conclusion. Until then, it's practically meaningless. You give out about poor pundits but if one of them came out with the same conclusion re a resurgence in Munster based on one season, I'd certainly consider that as weak analysis.

The Limerick team that ran both Cork and Kerry so close in the 00s were in my view the best side anywhere never to win a provincial title.

You could be right there. They beat Cork a few times and pushed a very good Kerry team on more than one occasion.
