Take Dublin out of Leinster (part 3)

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

15 point final win this year and didn't even get out of 1St gear. It's basically an exhibition for Dublin. Terrible attendance today for the final. the gaa built a monster thinking the cash would continue to flow not realising the reason for high leinster attendances was the competitiveness. Meath v louth final would get 50k plus. Dublin v a team that could beat them would sell out.

Their plan has backfired and the GAA have proven why they are an amateur organisation.

What should be done?

Option 1:
Give Dublin a bye to the all Ireland quarter finals

Option 2: enter them into round 1 of the qualifiers

Option 3: rotate Dublin around the provinces. So they only play in leinster every 4 years allowing it to recover and giving 5/6 leinster teams real silverware to play for for 3/4 years. Dublin playing in the other provinces would be exciting too. A win win situation.

Or option 4:
Leave it be. Let Dublin win a minimum of 9/10 of the next leinsters if not all 10. They've won 11/12 and that record could well look like 19/20 in 8 years time.

Please stop wasting everyone's time and take Dublin out of Leinster. Kerry hurlers don't play in munster, Galway hurlers don't play in connaught, Antrim hurlers allowed in leinster. It's not like moving Dublin is alien to the Gaa.

Or the old split Dublin in two idea?! Dublin north v Dublin south.

Lol I doubt any of your options would get approval but good try. Your correct though the Leinster Championship is finished, never to recover. It will be like the Scottish soccer only worse.. Dublin will never lose a Leinster Championship match again barring a once in a decade shock. The crowds will continue to fall and the standard in the province will fall further with no hope of success. Dublin will have a kick about in preparation for August.

As we can't change geography, we are all the more thankful for the qualifiers .

If you are going to split them it would have to be into their respective county councils, no point just splitting into 2 as they would still be too dominant.

Leinster teams also need to get their own act together. They can't blame Dublin for their poor league standings or bad AI qualifier record of late. Too many teams in Leinster don't look as though they have any effective game plan and aren't willing to embrace the modern game, therefore they are being left in the past and that is certainly not Dublin's fault.

You'd just have Dublin north v dublin south final every year.

Actually at least that would be competitive and interesting.

It goes in cycles....there will be a time when Dublin aren't as strong. Looks ominous at the moment but whose to say Meath / Kildare / Laois or whoever won't produce a great team in the next few years. Look at Galway in Connacht this year.

I think a lot of counties are struggling for motivation to reach their potential when a hammering to dublin is the best they can hope for.

They can't even get all their best players to commit. And who can blame them.

All funding should be redirected from Dublin and spread around the province. Dublin with their massive money deals can fund themselves without the sports council and the gaa piling on the funds.

Of the 4 options at the start of this post - I vote in order 3214.
How about 'Option 5' - a national 'Super Province' with 8 Div 1 teams - 4 QF losers to Qual Rd 2.
If splitting counties - use General Election constituencies - Cork splits in 4, Dublin, wait for it, 10 - Daft you say ?

Silly thread.

The other counties still have the qualifiers to play in once they've lost in Leinster.

The Leinster runner up gets to the last 12 of the championship so the Leinster championship is still important.

Meath and Kildare have the population (that's also growing faster than rural Ireland) to be amongst the top 4-5 teams in the country if they get their act together.

A Leinster title without Dublin wouldn't be worth winning.

Splitting Dublin could be interesting though.

Jack, Dublin are hammering everyone at the moment. They are an exceptional team, the best to have ever played the game most would argue. What motivation has any team outside of Cork and Kerry in Munster, Mayo and Galway in Connaught, Tyrone, Donegal and Monaghan in Ulster? What's diverting money from Dublin going to do, build a second centre of excellence in Meath? How many do you need? Why should Dublin be punished for doing all the hard work, securing the sponsorship and putting the structures in place? Why should Meath and others be rewarded for their shambles of a Co board, in-fighting, complete disorganisation and disarray? Makes no sense.

And soon we might as well just take them out of the All Ireland championship altogether because they are going to win at least 7/8 of the next 10 all irelands

Whingeing about dublin again..shows the fear in your county of dublin..instead of trying to match us you'd rarther just give in and get us out of leinster..this current dublin team wont last forever..whine all you want about money but if you havnt got the talent there coming through it means nothing..plus how could you claim to be leinster champions in a competition where dublin wasnt part of it..knowing you havnt won it on merit and beaten the best..sure why not turf kilkenny out while your at it..then maybe kerry in munster..time to stop blaming dublin for your own countys shortcomings...

Why is it that Kerry, Mayo and Donegal with a smaller population than meath and kildare, can compete with Dublin in League and champs? Grow a pair meath, kildare, and laois and do something about it.

Easy to blame Dublin for the rest of Leinster's failings. If Kerry, Tyrone or Mayo to name only a few were in Leinster instead of Dublin they would destroy all the teams as well and if the likes of Kildare & Meath were in any other province they would still be nowhere.

The problem with Leinster is that after Dublin, the only county ranked in the top 16 would be Longford and you can't blame Dublin for that.

So counties need to look at their own house first before going down the easy route and blaming the Dubs for everything.

This is obviously a blarney thread. Dublin Region would only exit the Leinster championship if they were entering the Railway Cup instead.

Dublin Region is not to blame for the poor quality of the rest of Leinster. Ulster usually has at least 2 decent challengers. Tyrone and Armagh in the 00's. Donegal, Monaghan and Tyrone since '11. Kerry and Cork obviously usually battle it out for Munster honours. Fair play to Tipperary for making the final and Clare for progressing. Mayo have been the sole Connaught team until this year.

Leinster counties need to take a leaf out of the books of Clare, Tipperary, Galway and Roscommon.

Dublin Region is not preventing Meath and Kildare from competing in Division 1. These counties need to get their own houses in order.

Dublin Region can only beat what's in front of them. Same as Mayo did for 5 years.
