The lack of televised games

(Oldest Posts First)

This coming weekend the only qualifier game being shown live is on Sky. Why is it that RTE are showing far less games, than they used to? Some of the decisions they make, in relation to live games, makes no sense. For example, they showed Laois v Armagh last month, even though it clashed with Ireland's match v Belgium in the Euro's, yet this weekend, they are showing no game, when there is zero other sport on. I remember when RTE used to stream games, that weren't on TV on their website.

RTE don't have the money any more especially with increased competition from other channels.
RTE are showing much less sport across the board then they used to
Sky bought exclusive rights to show some games. What do you want changed?

They should show more games, they should show less games, around around we go where ever we stop no one knows. The debate flip flops every few years

Rte are showing the Leinster and Ulster Football finals. It's up to other channels to show the qualifiers on Saturday if they want. There is far more live football on TV than there used to be so I don't get your point. In fact I would say there is too much live football on. I will go to see Cavan V Derry on Saturday and drink a few less pints this weekend to even up the bank balance.

It's not so long since RTE only showed the provincial finals and All-Ireland semis and finals.

It a real pity in a weekend with 7 football games only 2 are been shown where the majority of people can see them.

The harsh truth is that there wouldn't be a worthwhile audience for most if not all of the other games.
It costs a fair bit of money to show a game live & resources have to be put to best effect.

I think that sky our showing mayo against kildare is a joke, there will be no upset here plus seen mayo live last week, longford on there 2 great wins in recent weeks deserve the live coverage and also that there at home against another big county in cork i think the neutral would rather watch this.

MuckRoss Head is correct. Not all games next weekend have a national appeal. The 2 provincial finals on Sunday, and probably the Mayo vKildare game on Saturday night have the biggest audience potential.
If your county is playing in the other games, why not go along to support them.
I wish we were still in the championship.

I would disagree the connacht final would have neutral interest, as would the longford cork game with the possibility of a upset, plus the sligo and Cavan games have both the poentical to be very close games and the mayo game could be interesting is stuck behind a paywall. The Dublin match would have the least interest for alot of people is been shown. Gaa games bring in advertising revenue rte/sky don't show them out of the kindness of there heart as some like to think.
