Ciaran Whelan on S G

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Have to admit I was nearly sick watching Ronaldo tonight but I defo had to run to the loo after to listening to Whelan on SG ref the abuse O'Shea was getting on social media about his dive and that each player should not be subject to such witch hunts. He then referenced T McCanns abuse last year - is he for real he was one of the cheerleaders who was calling for him to be hung, drawn and quartered. I also remember his silence after the McMahon dive where he couldn't criticise his fellow Dublin man.

Totally agree. Mickey Harte has challenged him on it but I wouldn't expect a response. He even asked Tiernan McCann to make a public apology, did he apologise for his misdemeanours on the pitch? He bottled it last year with McMahon.

Mickey Harte wasn't happy about it when asked during his press conference ahead of the Ulster final.

I think the opinion of the Sunday game analysts carries way too much weight in the world of GAA though. It's up to the GAA themselves to sort out O'Shea and McCann.

Eamon O'Hara's very personal attack of Kevin Walsh is still the worst thing I have seen on the Sunday Game.

Is it possible he learned from last year and didn't want to go as hard again in another player?

Mickey Harte is one of the great managers. But I'd hardly listen to him about morality and fairness. He has presented us with beautiful choirboy angelic teams....... errrmmm that played fairly and within the rules. Hardly. Mickey does too many interviews moaning about the gaa..... and anybody that disagrees with him.

Again ...... top manager.

Its possible yeah.

But it doesn't fit the narrative to think rationally like that when you just want to have a go at a guy over a forum like this :)

Ciaran Whelan should be impartial and consistent but clearly isn't. He must have learned his lesson pretty quickly because a few weeks after ripping apart Tiernan McCann he chose to ignore eye gouging.

At least Mickey Harte doesn't regurgitate the same old drivel about 'playing football the right way' when his players have been involved in incidents of biting and eye gouging, certainly not the actions of angels.

Whelan's impartiality is now in question as a pundit. The hypocrisy was there for everyone to see and the chances of Tyrone reconciling with RTE are now as far away as ever. It was the sheer duplicity of what Whelan said regarding O'Shea compared to his attack on McCann and Tyrone last year. He also bottled criticising Dublin in any shape or form last season when they got up to various demeanours. It just reinforces the siege mentality and real belief that two Associations and two sets of rules within the media and GAA exist, one for Ulster and one for the rest.

Well if he had learnt from his behaviour last year then surely he should apologise to mccann for going over the top on on him while letting of mcmahan or o'shea off very easily.

Oh that's right, wouldn't be like a dublin man to admit when he's wrong.

Yeah I thought it was funny saying to lay off Aidan O Shea and at the same time putting the boot in himself. He was going on and on so much about ticks I almost lost the will to live. Then when Tomas O Shea was trying to bring a bit of balance he clammed up. I hated him as a player but actually like him as a pundit. It's very hard for ex players to come out and criticise their own teams but they are getting well enough paid to tell it as it is. I remember Anthony Tohill when he was a pundit a few years ago half defending the indefensible when a Derry player was involved. Our own James Horan writes for a local paper here but he will never come out and criticise the team or any of the players. He half criticised management this week, I think, but without knowing the code I couldn't be too sure.

Exactly and create a siege mentality against Tyrone. Mickey Harte is an auld shrewdie.

He admitted as much when he was laughing and joking with Tomas o'Se on numerous occasions when they discuss thier favourite topic of giving and taking a belt. He would say he got away with a few of those in his time etc....
But I think it is bit of a Meath man trying to sound holier then thou. Look at the 80's meath team and look at the 2010 leinster final....

Complete drivel by Harte saying McNulty dive cost them penalty.how bout McNabb taking head off Gouch and only getting yellow? Referee will to be on guard for McCarron antics and the Cavanaghs diving

The Eamonn O'Hara one was full on mental.

I hate when these guys are allowed to go off on their own petty little vendettas.

As for Ciaran Whelan, he put me off Dublin big time when he was playing. Wasn't afraid to have a stray elbow flying about. Glad he's not around I've no reason not to enjoy this current Dublin team.
