Munster hurling final

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Can't wait for this.My third favourite sporting event of the year. How do we all see this one going? My own feeling isb that Waterford will finally get one over on Tipp in a Munster final.Tipp have beaten the Deise in four finals in the last decade and i fancied Tipp in all four.It certainly helped having two of them in Thurles and i feel Waterford were right to ensure this game was played in Limerick.

Tipp have an excellent full-back line with Barret and Barry playing hurling of a very high standard.Ronan Maher has shored up the centre half back position but i have yet to see him under severe pressure.Like his brother he is great in the air but i would like to see how he reacts if things are not going his way.

Waterford have played some quality hurling throughout the league and were excellent in beating Clare the last day out.The back line is giving away few goal chances.N Connors,Coughlan and S Fives kept their Clare opponents away from the danger zone.T D Burca is a great man to read a game and as a result clears a lot of ball.Austin Gleeson is a phenomenal hurler and if he has his shooting boots on can score freely from centre back. Will Waterford be able to keep S Callinan from scoring goals? They held Tipp from scoring a goal in last years final in Thurles. If can do so again they will fancy their chances.

Bubbles is a huge loss for Tipp. One of their two marquee forwards.Who will stand up and cover this loss?John and Noel McGrath are great sticksmen but lack pace. Will the Bonner start? If he does he wont score much on all known form.Is Dan McCormack going to hold his place? If he does he wont score much either on known form.Jason Forde must start for me.Any time ive seen him he chips in with a few scores.Niall O Meara's pace could be a serious asset.Interesting to M Ryan's selection.

Midfield is hard to call.J Barron has been hurling up a storm.Classy player.Covers the ground with huge skill levels and chips in with a few scores. M Breen and B Maher are forming a formidable partnership.Breen is teak tough and has a good eye for a goal.Midfield will not be for the feint hearted.

Can Waterford's forwards do sufficient damage to Tipp's back line?I'm not convinced with Tipp at right-half back and M Cahill seems to have lost a yard of pace.Old warriors like the Brick and Kevin Moran will test Tipp at half back and i feel the two Mahers will be in for a hard afternoon.Young whipper snappers like C Dunford and P Curran will run all day.Maurice will cause havoc around the square and P O Mahony will have a 90% success rate from placed balls.

Should be some game.Roll on Sunday and i have a feeling Waterford might just edge it.Deise by 2.

This will be the real acid test for Waterford just to see how much progress they have made in the last year. If they loose by anything more than a goal then lots of questions will be asked of their so called progress as a maturing team and one will wonder where this game plan of theirs is going. Beating tipp though is a tall order. I think it will go down to the wire and will swing either way by a point and maybe a draw. Lots of points and few goals.

This won't be a great game at all, as much as I'd like it to be as both teams won't cut loose and go for it.

It'll be a cagey affair with swamped defences and so forth, Waterford might sneak it if their long range point taking is on target, otherwise I think Tipp have the better forwards to eek out a 21 points to 18 points win.

Bubbles is just a massive loss to Tipp, we simply can't win this game without Bubbles, we needed him to have some chance. Waterford will win pulling up like they did against Clare, just hope we can stay in the game long enough to make it a good Munster final.

Last year was certainly like that with Tipp winning 0-21 to 0-16.It will be tough and space for the forwards will be at a premium but this type of game can be absorbing in its own right. My worry for Tipp is if Callinan is well martialled from open play where will the scores come from to win the game?Hard to see any Munster county losing to the same team in five finals in nine years.Waterford are going to be ravenous to stop this from happening. It is going to be some game.

Play Bonnar Maher sit him on De Burca and nullify him and I think Tipp will edge it

Bricktop is right it won't be a great game, play 15 on 15 and it would be a great game but he is spot on, the middle will be packed up as usual. Looking forward to the day that we get a good 15 on 15 with no sweeper.

As others have said I think Bubbles is a massive loss for Tipp. You have to imagine the Deise will blot out Callinan or at least severely limit his impact.

Surely Jason Forde will come in - How come he wasn't playing vs Limerick - Tipp posters?

I'll go Waterford by 3 with Cork and Clare winning in Thurles tomorrow

100% with you about the sweeper. I'm hoping Tipp win and this will be the end to the sweeper to, I'd like to see Waterford win an all Ireland but not the way they play now. I think they are good enough just to play 15v15

I can't split them; so, I'm going for a draw (and a tentative £5 with Paddy Power at 8/1).

I seriously hope the top two are the two All Ireland Finals!

Hoping for a rip-roarer today. Feel that it might be tight early on. Think Waterford will want to stifle us initially. The dreadful record of the Munster champions in recent years is a worry!

Looking forward to this one - wet day makes even more intriguing - draw a high possibility but it will be feisty.

Game started brilliantly, gone very much off the boil. Still very physical but Waterford in particular have become very wasteful up front and giving away a few costly frees at the back. Me thinks I spoke too soon.
