Hurling qualifiers pairings

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I know it's hypothetical but if Clare and cork progress in the qualifiers it means
That if tipp win munster.
It will be
galway v Clare
Waterford v cork
If Waterford win munster
It will be
Galway v cork
Tipp v Clare.
Just a thought!

I've nothing against Limerick or Wexford but for the sake of the championship you'd hope Cork and Clare win so Kilkenny might get some sort of resistance between now and the first Monday in September.

I wish Waterford well, most Galway supporters would love to see Waterford winning an AI, unless of course they were playing Galway! But Waterford's record against KK in Croke Park in modern times has been poor, unlike Cork's. Hopefully that will change this year if they do meet KK.

And likewise good wishes to our tribal friends if we fall short - cork and waterford cannot be compared in recent times though my friend.

Clare should beat Limerick handily unless Limerck have been hiding some cards, but Im not so sure that Cork will have it all their way against Wexford. I thought they hurled well for periods against Offaly and are always a hard team to beat.

I'd be very surprised if we beat cork,we're short to many players if we were picking from or near a full hand id give us a decent chance,I think Clare seem to be in a better place than limerick and should win but Clare have only won 2 championship games sense they won the all ireland in 2013 (home to offaly and laois) so it's about time they delivered given all their talent. I think there the only team out of the four playing on Saturday who have the potential to challenge in croke park come August

The Munster final is that hard to call I'm going to back the draw

True. We haven't really played KK in the championship much recently. We have only played twice this decade with one win a piece. If we were to meet we would be hammered in current form. Waterford would have a better chance no doubt.

The days of cork hurling are long gone....there was nothing better than a cork waterford championship match...loved going to them as a kid...waterford seem to have a good balance now with consistent full back line and 6 good capable forwards...i can see waterford winning sunday..but can they finally deal with kk?? I was at the league match, but the league is the league...nothing won in jan feb march we want to be hurling on 04th of sept. Im looking forward to double header sat though..potential to be two crackers!!

I wouldnt be hyping up cork to much after the win v dublin....a decent display by a few players....cast your mind back to the tipp game...worst cork performance ive seen in years...i know ye are no world beaters but neither are cork...shaping up to be a close one and one i cant wait to watch.

Sadly from a limerick point of view, I dont see us beating Clare. we've gone backwards at a rate of knots since the semifinal in 14. it hurts but Clare to win by 4 or 5. Can't actually call Wex and Cork. both teams need this but form is all over the place.I'm going to munster final and hoping for a cracking game. think Waterford will shade it, they have a bit of bite this year, did very well to beat Clare after the league final. be amazing to see them kick on and win an AI. A county that deserves success...

Clare and Cork are the strongest combination of wins from that pairing.

Limerick seem to be out of sorts again this year for whatever reason and Wexford are really weak. They wouldn't prepare Galway or the Munster final loser with a proper test ahead of a semi final with Kilkenny and the Munster champions.

Assuming Kilkenny make the final, you want the other finalists if they are the Munster champions to have come through a really hard test with Clare/Cork or Galway. Now if the Munster champions fail to make the final you'd be hoping its someone like clare who will bring momentum and experience to the final showdown with Kilkenny.

The only way Kilkenny will lose a semi final is if it's against a team that had to earn their quarter final win.

That said it is already looking like an inevitable three in a row. If it is I'll be the first to commend Kilkenny on what would be another phenomenal feat. But for the sake of hurling the other counties nearly have a moral obligation to make it as difficult as possible.

Re JuniorJudge

Who have Waterford beaten in the last few years. A poor Cork team and Clare.

I doubt ye will beat Tipp. Tipp are used to playing in Limerick and Waterford haven't a hope of keeping Callanan quite.

Cork's form has been poor of late but ye were on the receiving end of a hiding from them in 2014 in the replay in Thurles.

Cork were the last team to beat Kilkenny in the Championship in 2013.

The only hype is around this year is around a Waterford team who won 1 league. Think ye are overly confident.

As for Benny, this fellah has a chip on his shoulder with Cork intercounty teams. He even called for the Co.Board to abolish the Cork Senior football team on another thread.

Cork and Clare will win.

At this point if forced to predict it, unfortunately I would say a Tipp v KK final but at least I think Tipp would win it. My hope is that Waterford win Munster and go on to win the AI. Clare might rattle KK in an AI semi final.

a fully fit and present wexford team would beat this current cork team, but minus jippo ryan, andrew shore, david redmond, aidan nolan, shane tompkins, and minus jack guiney, ian byrne and kevin foley who don't seem to want it,i cant see us beating cork.
good to see the young and up and coming players like jack o connor, david dunne,d o keefe coming in and doing a job on saturday, and conor mc showing the form of 2014 again!

Not true.

What form have Wexford that makes you think they would beat this Cork team?

I am not saying it is not possible but I have seen nothing from Wexford that suggests that even with a full compliment they would beat Cork regardless of the lack of confidence in this Cork team. Cork forwards are too strong for Wexford's backs IMO

p.s. I genuinely believe it is Waterford's year in Munster and maybe for the All Ireland.
