That should be some game. Think DJ will still be able to beat them all the same....

"A couple of weeks ago, and this doesn't get much publicity, Kilkenny had two teams, East and West, along with teams from Carlow, Laois and Wicklow in a competition. The two Kilkenny teams met in the final.

"Nobody realises but there is no hurling in primary school in Kilkenny between the months of September and March. It's all football, 100 per cent football.

And then Nicky Brennan says this: link

In fairness keeper there are lies, damn lies and statistics.
Football may be played during those months, but that doesnt mean its being taken seriously, or being played in large numbers.

Poor form from Brennan, is this what the top level of the GAA really think about weaker teams in both codes?

Sure didn't he recently proudly boast that Nowlan Park was able to be upgraded because they saved a lot of money by not having to field a football team. The man obviously has no time for the game and that is poor form for an ex president of the GAA.Good luck DJ as i think you'll need it.

The bizarre thing is that Nicky Brennan actually managed the Kilkenny footballers at one stage.

It doesn't matter what DJ does with these U-14s, it is all propaganda by the Kilkenny Co Board. There are no football leagues in KK after U-14, just straight knockout championship played in depth of winter. Most clubs for some reason enter teams and then don't both turning up, meaning little or no football for players that are interested from u-14 on

I blame Dublin. Its Dublins fault.

Interesting to hear that from the horse/cat's mouth! In Longford, there's only 2 clubs left fielding at underage so you can imagine how many games our hurlers will be getting after U14....

Fair play to the guy for stepping in no airs and graces about him. And willing to work with the grassroots. At the very least his profile might bring a bit more interest to Kilkenny football.

He is no longer muzzled by role as president and is now free to speak the truth however unpalatable it may be to some.

Down hurling clubs enter into the Antrim hurling league.

Would it be possible for Longford teams to enter into Westmeath.

Could the likes of Longford, Cavan, Monaghan, Leitrim, Sligo join together to get better competitions for those wanting to play hurling in their counties.

Kilkenny could do something similar to join up with their neighbours. I don't know much about the club structure in Carlow, Waterford and Wexford but they're all division 4 counties, could they benefit from linking up more.

We do...whenever we can. We get no home games with that arrangement.

Good idea.
