In this summer of shocks. Can Meath beat Dublin?

With all the shocks in recent weeks. Tipperary beating Cork, Galway bating Mayo, Cavan drawing with Tyrone. Can Meath upset the form guide too?

If Galway can end Mayo's dominance of Connacht then Meath can end Dublin's dominance of Leinster.

Whether they will or not is another question but they definitely can.

Unfancied Meath to beat a great Dublin in the rain just like did in 1986 and 1996. 2016 has a nice ring to it. I think they will win. I expect a big performance at least. If Rooney can dominate midfield, Tobin and Harnan hav big games in the half back line. Burke holds his own at full back, and not get caught out. The key cud be Wallace, Reilly and Sullivan. If them three hav big games particular Reilly, its game on. I cud see Meath going into big lead, then Dublin peging them back. But the best thing Meath can do is try like 86 and 96 keep it a low scoring game. And stop Dublin scoring goals. It was always Sean Boylans motto. An interesting stat in Meath 10 victories v Dublin in the last 35 years , Dublin did not score one goal. The only time that Dublin beat Meath and scored no goal was in 2007 replay. If Meath stop Dublin scoring goals, there half way there.

Not anytime soon in my opinion based on the gulf in class between the sides. If Meath produce an excellent performance and put it up to the Dubs, getting within 10 would be a good outcome for them. I just think that's the reality of the situation. Would be savage to see them actually win though.

Well when you see the apparent decline of the other main challengers, the pool of teams that can beat dubs is getting smaller, I hope Meath will win today, its a big ask but been one of only 4 counties who believe themselves that they can beat them .. Here's hoping

As for gulfs in class? The average age of the players is 22, with a few experienced lads thrown in, trust me Donal Keogan graham Reilly, Harry Rooney and cillian o Sullivan are not a lower class players, if there was a transfer marked they'd be extremely sought after.

Sadly no..

Meath are on Galways level, but Dublin are way better than Mayo.

Meath are far too inexperienced and don't have the management to pull it off.Not enough evidence to suggest Meath can win sadly.

Keoghan is a very good player. Haven't seen much of Reilly this year. Did he play in Brewster? I thought last year (of what I saw of him) that he was declining. Didn't seem to be putting in the performances he had in previous years.

He goes missing when the going gets tough.

Hit and miss sometimes with Reilly.
However even having a off day v Louth he either scored or assisted (be it last pass or fouled for free) to 45% of our total scores.
So while not at his 2010 level still offers so much going forward, now like past few meetings dubs will double mark him today but that will free up one of the others, O'Sullivan is a really good footballer and if Meath get to quarters this year he will get a certain ypoty nomination if he keeps on the path he is.
But that's all down the road all that matters is today.

His marker raided forward many times and managed to score 2 points off him. When I played in the half forward line it was very rare that my marker scored and many of them raided forward were faster and younger than me.I would too embarrassed if they did score. This happens too often with G Reilly. He may score a great point only for it to be cancelled out by letting his direct opponent score.

He has super talent, but is also the most frustrating player on the Meath team.I think Connolly used to be like this for Dublin.

I wouldn't even call that a shock.A bit of a surprise alright and I wasn't surprised that Tipp beat Cork or Longford beat Down.

Ziggy change the record. Honestly man, its the day of our biggest game of the year, get behind all our players and even management, enough dubs today will be slagging biggy without his own doing it.
I have a problem with a few of the lads on the team, one in particular, but no one knows it and I certainly won't harp on and on about him before playing dubs, and you know many many times what I have written about mod, bit before a huge championship match is not the time to start slagging him off.
So give the whining a miss until 8.30, who knows by then biggy could be motm and mod guaranteed another year.
