Just thinking about Spillanes comments about Tyrone and "total football", I wonder does he actually mean it or is he saying what the GAA and RTE want him to say. What you think???? wd45 (Westmeath) - Posts: 211 - 20/06/2016 10:06:08 1869358 Link 0 |
Total football me a--e we will destroy them. clondalkindub (Dublin) - Posts: 9926 - 20/06/2016 10:20:30 1869373 Link 0 |
like Tyrone are a decent team and will go far this year but to say they play total football is a joke. It looks to me like he got a warning for being negative, but now hes gone way over the top being positive. wd45 (Westmeath) - Posts: 211 - 20/06/2016 10:39:42 1869394 Link 0 |
Three weeks ago he was tipping Mayo for the All Ireland.. Belclare1 (Galway) - Posts: 1626 - 20/06/2016 11:06:21 1869432 Link 1 |
Looks to me like he is trying to build Tyrone up as the only team who might threaten the Dubs...wants people to have Kerry written off.. gorby580 (Limerick) - Posts: 165 - 20/06/2016 11:08:28 1869436 Link 0 |
I was very impressed with them when attending the Div 1 & 2 league finals.Organisation is top class.Great defensive structure, although conceding three goals yesterday will annoy them.I'd say it will be even harder for any team to score goals after yesterday.Micky and the troops will be doing everything in their power to rectify that aspect.Skill levels are very high.I think they have a good chance of reaching an All Ireland final, and if you get that far, anything is possible. cuederocket (Dublin) - Posts: 5084 - 20/06/2016 11:18:04 1869442 Link 1 |
Yeah I think theres some truth to that gorby580. At half time yesterday the first thing he said was " can I just say that was a great game of football". He says that at half time in nearly every game hes asked. So far this year the football has been poor apart from Galway v Mayo. wd45 (Westmeath) - Posts: 211 - 20/06/2016 11:20:08 1869444 Link 0 |
The game yesterday was terrific, so Spillane was right to say it was a good game and it was definitely a better game than Galway v Mayo which was good but the first 25 minutes of that match were probably one of the worst 25 minutes of football I've ever seen. Tyrone have an element of total football to them as there defence is very good and when their forwards get going they are great to watch. uibhfhaili1986 (Offaly) - Posts: 1296 - 20/06/2016 12:08:35 1869497 Link 0 |
The man can't win... I'm not his biggest fan but if he is negative there's a thread set up or if he is too positive then he gets hammered too. Tyrone are a top 4 side but they are missing a marquee forward in my opinion. westkerry (Kerry) - Posts: 1250 - 20/06/2016 12:23:18 1869513 Link 0 |
Galway v Mayo was gowl. It was exciting cause It was close and in the end the underdog prevailed. But the conditions made the actual game itself as a spectical...poor waynoI (Dublin) - Posts: 13650 - 20/06/2016 12:54:01 1869556 Link 0 |
Everyone I met since Saturday had a "feeling" Galway were going to win. Funny how nobody mentioned it beforehand. Anyway Pat may still be right!!!

Think Pat is acutely aware of the perception that TSG panel are "negative" and wants to try and address that early on. GetOverTheBar (Tyrone) - Posts: 1388 - 20/06/2016 16:33:44 1869777 Link 0 |
They obviously have someone doing a stats analysis for Pats benefit ruanua (Donegal) - Posts: 4966 - 20/06/2016 16:45:53 1869784 Link 0 |
Yeah it did feel like they were making more of an effort to analyse the games. In the preview they showed the speed at which Cavan and Tyrone counter attack. It was an enjoyable game of football. Tyrone probably are the better team but they do seem to lack a bit in the forward line to take advantage of the good positions they're getting into. You be worried about their fb in an Ulster final. I'd say Donegal could play Murphy on the square if it's them v Tyrone. Monaghan would fancy Hughes to give them a hard time also. Cavan have options too for the next day. Argue paired with Givney could wreak havoc. Whammo86 (Antrim) - Posts: 4172 - 20/06/2016 17:00:06 1869792 Link 0 |

Don't think most Tyrone fans will take this too seriously - even Brolly is getting on the bandwagon. IrishGael3 (USA) - Posts: 1092 - 20/06/2016 21:55:52 1869941 Link 0 |
it's really educational when you look at the bbc coverage of the ulster games and compare their pre-match, half-time and post match analysis to RTE's. the RTe pundits are lazy , ill-informed and downright rude. take Spillane's assesment of Kevin Mcloughlin's performance v Galway. and then the same assesment was repeated later on that night. as I say ill-informed and lazy. s goldrick (Cavan) - Posts: 5518 - 20/06/2016 23:52:25 1869990 Link 0 |

Think RTE are becoming aware of losing their monopoly on coverage of The Ulster Championship but they have left it much too late to build bridges. Curlew66 (Roscommon) - Posts: 500 - 23/06/2016 00:20:03 1870989 Link 0 |
In fairness bbc ni only have to cover one game a week and less than 10 games a year makes things alot easier. The gets the coverage for nothing as well. The have no preview/highlights programme either.
