Tipperary v Waterford hurling final venue?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Waterford travelled to Thurles for last year's Munster hurling final. As one of the Tipperary players said after today's Limerick game, Thurles is their ground, they train there.

Páirc Uí Chaoimh is currently rubble/building site. It would seem unfair for Waterford to take on Tipperary in Tipp's own back yard again. They would unlikely bring it to Killarney, is Limerick the only option?

Don't bring it to Killarney, we don't want Tipp winning Munster down there.

I said Waterford were foolish to play last years final in Thurles. They might like Thurles but Tipp are hard to beat in their spiritual home.I think it has to be Limerick for the Munster final and i feel Waterford will be victorious.

Id be very surprised if Waterford accept to play in Semple Stadium again.

sure waterford know thurles better than the gaelic grounds anyway
its about an hour and 15 mins from waterford city centre to thurles
you can add an hour onto that going to the ennis road in limerick
would be a bad call making supporters travel an extra hour just because thurles is tipps home ground

Play it in Nowlan Park - The Home of Hurling. It's equidistant between Tipp and Waterford.

It's hardly making the Waterford fans climb Mount Everest, hill. An extra half hour drive? Is it really that big an issue? The most important thing is the players and i dont think there is any chance that Waterford will play in Tipperary's home ground once again.Afterall,Waterford have lost four munster finals to Tipp in the last eight years, with three of those defeats in Semple Stadium.

Cork would have been the obvious venue but Limerick should be the choice now, Whilst Limerick might be further than thurles genuine waterford fans wouldnt mind if it made the Difference.

Playing it in Thurles would be a huge advantage to Tipperary as they train there, will have more fans play, there more often.

Indeed the last 3 Munster Finals have all gone to the home team and I'm sure Waterford want to avoid the backdoor so I fully understand why they'd want to have a fair and neutral venue to maximise their chances.

W'ford were happy to play us in Thurles last year, the only games they have won are in Thurles, its a big statement now to say "we dont think we can beat ye in Thurles", we dont care we love Limerick and will bring another big crowd.W'ford hardly know where it is and have never played there.

its an hour further cue from thurles to the ennis road about
just seems silly for the sake of where the ground is located
best team will win on any pitch
plus you wont get as good a crowd going to limerick as thurles

Killarney would be a great venue lots of Munster finals there in the 70s and 80s. Tipp used to play Limerick ,Clare and Cork there back in the day.
Can't see Waterford agree to Thurles again so Limerick is obvious choice.

Thurles has seen all the matches this year, no spread of venues at all. Limerick is a fine venue and a fine city and any Waterford supporter worth their salt should have no problem travelling to Limerick for a Munster Final. Travelling to matches is a ritualistic thing that supporters of most counties are used to and plenty enjoy, Watetford to Linerick is not like climbing Everest, it's quite manageable.

Killarney is a bit of a trek from Waterford
The guts of three hours.
thurles is the logical venue here
Sure isn't it the home of hurling anyway we are constantly told

you wont see tyrone or cavan looking for the ulster football final to be moved from clones if monaghan beat donegal.
nobody has a problem with the venue in limerick its well able to cater alright
but is there really a need to drag waterford supporters an hour further
thurles is the most accesable ground for both counties and will provide a bigger crowd.

Sorry to bust your bubble but Last time I checked Kilkenny is in Leinster so Nowlan Park is a non-runner for that reason alone.
