Gum shields

(Oldest Posts First)

I count 3 Cavan players not wearing gum shields and their number six blatantly talking to the ref with nothin in his mouth.

Usual inconsistencies in the Gaa

Does ref need to send them to the line to get one? Serious question. Shouldn't be a card offence surely.

If ref does notice this he only sends them to the line to get one, the ref has enough to do without checking 30 players out.
Maybe each of linesmen could check 1 team each, someone will get a bad knock to the mouth then i assure you he will wear it next time.

You get one caution and have to leave the field to get one in. Don't have it in another time during game and ref notices then you are off.

They are a bloody pain to wear that's for sure.
I'll never get use to them.
It stays in the sock unless I'm spotted!

Was at a game today where ref made one player go off to get one then the guy beside me was saying he was at a game last week where 3 times the ref had to stop to order different guys to go get them then one got the line as he had it down his sock later in the game. So it does get enforced.

If a player fails to comply with a refs request to put in a gumshield, he will then get a yellow. If he complies with the request then he won't. Nothing to stop him from taking it out again. And then you have the exemptions - don't get me started....

Club games have no linesmen
Ref should line up each team, make sure they have one each. Check subs as the come on and give the slip of paper. Can also explain "his rules" to each team at beginning . We know all refs are different. We can learn much from them foreign sports.

Some/most do have linesmen(where im from at least)..
Ref should check players as they come out of dressing room
Simply players should be wearing them but if they don't there is no leniency if they get hurt and have to get expensive dental work to fix their broken teeth

What's the point in checking them as they leave the dressing room as they can put them in their socks straight after. Alter the existing rule so that it is an automatic yellow if a player is found not to be wearing one. Currently it is only if a player fails to comply with an instruction to wear one. Amazing how quick lads put them in when the yellow is flashed!!

And then you have players being granted exemptions from wearing them by Croke Park. So now the refs have to read the exemption letters before issuing the card :(

As a ref am sick to tje teeth getting players to wear them our booking them so i just do not bother now unless that players is mouthing at me i tell him to put in gum shield as it will shut him up. Seriously refs have enough to do without this like i said i tried to clamp down on it but other refs where not so i do not bother no more.
