Yes increasing the number of sub's allowed from 3 to 5 has played a significant role in widening the gap between the strong and the weak. It was always going to do that. It was a mistake to introduce the rule but it is one of those things that once it is introduced it is difficult if not impossible to imagine it ever being repealed. It certainly helps the larger/ stronger countries and clubs but most changes do. Can't see it changing in fact I'd say the next change will be 6/8 interchange players law compromise rules lillyboy (Kildare) - Posts: 429 - 27/04/2016 15:55:38 1850169 Link 0 |
Why don't we weigh all intercounty players, measure their heights, do bleep tests, see what they can bench press, check who kicks off left, right or both and then, Formula One-style, even out the standards of intercounty teams. The All Ireland All-inclusive Politically Correct Everyone's a Winner Football Championship they could call it. Sam Maguire would turn in his grave. Greenandred great post , my thinking exactly , this constant analysis of all things unfair is comical with the Master normally as the cheerleader . My club play this week in the championship club , most likely will lose but it hasn't stopped our lads working their ass off, but barring a miracle they will lose , we are a small club less resources and that's sport. The game is so fast now you need to be able to bench 5 players. There has always been an advantage and disadvantage in the GAA and it's there across sport. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11219 - 28/04/2016 15:16:26 1850468 Link 0 |

I would agree with the call to revert back to 3 subs. It is not related to some peoples problem with the capital. I think cynical fouls should be punished with a yellow card and a free-kick on the 21 yard line, straight in front of the goals. If a cynical foul outside the large square denies a clear goal scoring opportunity, it should be punished with a yellow card and a penalty though the foul was outside the large square. By awarding a penalty, the attacking team retains the goal scoring opportunity. It's not unusual in some other sports that a scoring opportunity would be presented in something of a similar situation. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 7758 - 28/04/2016 18:58:58 1850546 Link 0 |
My point here is the more subs you allow the deeper your panel has to be and this will inherently favour the stronger counties that have bigger playing populations. centerfield (Mayo) - Posts: 360 - 28/04/2016 20:48:13 1850568 Link 0 |
