Goal scoring forwards

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Watching fairly run-of-the-mill goals scored in the semi-finals on Sunday set me wondering about who would be considered goal scoring forward in the game at the moment. What do posters think?. I had always considered Cooper as the top man but he doesn't seem to be in the groove anymore.

Tomas Corrigan and his brother have good eyes for goals. But Brogan is the king when it comes to finishing goals. Lee Brennan looks like he might be a lethal finisher too.

Kevin McManamon has a great eye for the goal!

Michael Murphy would be the most feared goal scorer in the game if only Donegal played to his strengths.

Your right there barnowl.Murphy reminds me of Joe Canning for Galway hurlers.I'd leave both at the edge of the square and play to their strengths.

Kevin McMenamin, James O'Donoghue, Diarmuid Connolly, Colm O'Neill, Ross Munnelly, Cillian O'Connor

what i love about these lads is, if there is a sniff of a goal they will go for it.
I hate lads that bottle it and take the point. The game is about winning, a goal wins a game.....go for goal for fecks sakes!!!

Eoin Mulligan was the best of all for that

Bernard Brogan for me is head and shoulders above the rest. He just needs half a chance.....

I agree with this - I mightn't go as far as saying they bottle it as they maybe under instruction from the lads on the line to play 'percentages' (and other such sterile coaching jargon) and take the point and fear being hauled off if they miss a goal chance. We want to see goals/near misses/saves - these are the highlights of the game. Who remembers a great fisted-point? Is that an oxymoron in GAA speak?

Think the real deal smells the real opportunity and knows when its really on . Dublin for a long time were cursed by forwards who either shot from stupid angles or didn't give it to the better positioned teammate. No one knows goal chances and takes them like the likes of TJ Reid amongst many great goal getters from Kilkenny , from a football point of view the Gooch when positioned can be faultless

Yeah would say Brogan is the best goal finisher over the last number of years.

Eddie Brennan was the real goal machine during Kilkenny's greatest period. Lar Corbett between 09 and 12 was unmarkble in front of goals. In 07 Dan Shanahan netted with just about every ball he caught. TJ Reid and Seamie Callinan are the best around today and I like the looks of Austin Gleeson of Waterford so far.

Thing about Bernard is, cometh the day, cometh the man.
How often have u seen Bernard drift thru the championship, put in a few decent performances but not exactly set the pitch on fire. Then a few IDIOTS start questioning him and his place in the team, then, come the big day, the man catches fire and wins games on his own. He is the ULTIMATE big game player, and as i have said many times, he wont be appreciated fully until he has retired. He is best Dublin forward of my life time

Brogans movement off the ball is one of his greatest strengths and makes him stand-out from may modern forwards. With such an emphasis on fitness and forwards tracking back, there seems to be few players in the intercounty game who can make room for themselves with clever movement but Brogan is certainly one.

+1, Brogan is always ghosting in the right space off the ball to attack the goal opportunities that come his way. Would say Gooch is the best finisher with his feet in a one on one but brogan is the lethal in terms of his movement and attacking a goal chance with his hands.

don't mention that hoor:) all jokes aside I have the utmost respect for that man balls of steel Dublin would've won nothing without him more important than brogan in my opinion never flinched in going for the jugular

Idiots Liam?Still going on about me saying i would have taken him off in second half v Kildare last year as he was having a stinker. It's what i would have done then.I haven't changed my mind now.Even top players can have bad days, and when they do,they deserve the same treatment as others.
