Tyrone 2016

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I've only seen a bit of Tyrone this year on setanta and cause of the terrible weather their games were played in you couldn't tell to much about them, so what's the story. A lot of pundits and papers tipping them for Sam. Are they the real deal or not ?

Semi Final probably, won't beat Dublin, Kerry or Mayo.

No mind games, just not good enough. Monaghan and Donegal will also have no fear of them in Ulster.

10 years ago Tyrone were a great team, full of marquee players, with a very effective system and managed by a great manager. They still have the great manager, he still knows how to set up very effectively and get the best out of his players but they just don't have near as many marquee players as they used to and that will halt them for me.

not as good as some think ( not Tyrone folk themselves they would understand well where they are)
may well have tights days in Ulster against ...as already mentioned .... Monaghan, Donegal ... and possibly ourselves too!!

Tyrone squad has been well freshened up over the past two years and the senior men to look up to include Donnelly, Harte and Colm Cavanagh. Ronan O'Neill and Darren McCurry need to also take on added responsibility and of the newer players Brennan, McCann, Myler and Bradley have made great progress. Colm Cavanagh has adapted very well to midfield/sweeper role and Tyrone look capable of playing a high energy running game which can take them to an Ulster championship. They look the most likely team outside the top four of Dublin, Kerry, Mayo and Donegal to break through and with a possible Kerry v Dublin Semi-final it would not be unrealistic to target a place in the All-Ireland final.

Know little of Tyrone , are they a younger model of previous team or have they got there own identity, are they playing counter attacking football , do they kick long ball at all or are they a hand passing team ?

Shouldn't Tyrone concentrate on winning their first Ulster title since 2010 before they think about Sam? No doubt they have a quality side, but until they win something of importance that's all they will be, a quality side.

Are Tyrone supporters still looking rid of Mickey Harte or what's the story?

From what I've seen of them on telly I think they're a bit overrated, I think Donegal would put them away handily enough, but like I've said my assessment is based on what I've seen of them on the TV, time will tell no doubt!

overrated your joking, this team our building nicely i think they our ulsters best chance of winning sam, just remember if ( yes if is a big word ) they had taken there goal chances against kerry in semi they would have won easily. This team will cause the dubs more problems than any other team in my opinion for what its worth.

Mickey Harte said that no team playing in Division Two will win an All Ireland . If Tyrone make an Ulster Final this year and end up playing Donegal they will face a team who will have played nine out of ten league and championship games this year against Division One opposition . If they play Monaghan they will be playing a team who will have played nine out of nine league and championship games against Division One opposition this year . Tyrone will not play a single team who played in Division One this year until The Ulster Final . They will do well to win Ulster this year . They have no chance of winning an All Ireland .

Dubjohn, you keep watching the tv its obvious you know nothing about tyrone.
How someone can call a team overrated with watching a couple of games on the telly is beyond a joke.

No need to be so touchy buddy, if you read my post properly you'd see that I said my assessment of Tyrone was based on what I'd seen on TV, now I really shouldn't have to explain any further, read between the lines and pay attention to what you're reading in future!

Tyrone have always been a good winter team however for the past few years struggle to beat any of the top 3 and are in tight games against the next group during warmer weather. I think they are amongst around half a dozen average teams who can manage to get to an AI semi if draw opens up. However Kerry did what they had to last year and this year will be much the same. A cracking Ulster semi awaits against Cavan which may bring them into the final but this Tyrone team will not win an Ulster or All Ireland this year. Monaghan different animal in Clones and the top 3 will beat them comfortably if they make Croker.

Ha you boys would need to be worried about whether or not you are gonna field this year. And as for taking some shot at fans wanting harte out the important thing is the county board wanted him and didn't pull the rug from under him in a disgraceful manner, pointing no fingers.

I don't think anyone can comment on them after seeing 2 full games on setanta, we were great against derry awful against Armagh. No one in Tyrone is saying they will win an all Ireland but I suspect we won't be too far way come the end of the summer. I don't think we will win ulster though

Why start a thread on Tyrone. They are cocky enough without feeding their ego!!!

They have it all to do to win Ulster never mind anything else. They should beat Derry but Derry could beat them. Similarly if they play Armagh. I feel a game against Cavan would be 50:50 and then they would have Donegal or Monaghan. If they were to go through the backdoor they would need a kind draw to get to an All Ireland final. If they did anything could happen.

The way I see it they could lose to Derry, Cavan, Armagh, Galway or Roscommon in a one off game and I do not feel Dublin or Kerry would lose to them in the championship.

MourneArmy your own county almost won an AI from nowhere 6 years ago, why would a team like Tyrone set limits just to winning Ulster?

Donegal played in D2 in 2014 and came a kick of a ball of winning Sam so I wouldn't say Tyrone are not a threat .

I felt they matched Kerry last year and got some poor decisions against them in that game .

They will crave an Ulster but it's a tough route they face . Even though Derry ain't going well - it's a tough away game nonetheless .

Then it's probably an up and coming Cavan team - again not easy .

Then it's Donegal or Monaghan . Another 50/50 .

Tyrone lost to Donegal in 11,12,13 and 15. They would love to beat us big this year .

Not saw enough of them this year but we will know all about them come Celtic Park in 6-8 weeks .

We just don't have the scoring forwards needed to bring us up to the next level, simple as. To be honest, I wouldn't be too fussed if we don't win Ulster, the qualifiers have been good for us in terms of building momentum and bringing players through, another run to the business end would be good enough for me.

My take on Tyrone is this --- when did they last win a championship game in Celtic park --- is it around 25/30 year ago.
For them to win Ulster they must survive in Celtic park but I see Derry winning that game with a score line of maybe1-7 to 8 points so you know the kind of game it will be
I know Tyrone have beaten Derry four times already this year but on the day that really matters can they do it -- I say no as Derry will be ready for that game even though they might go no FUTHER in Ulster
But in saying that I think Tyrone will do well in the championship and indeed will cause any team including Dublin and Kerry plenty of problems
I thought they had a fantastic defensive system last year and good counter attacking moves plus they could have beaten Kerry ( missed goals and a penalty turned down plus R mcNamee sent off)
Joe McMahon was a serious miss v Kerry last year so let no one write them off plus we need a team or two to break through to make the championship interesting
