A real classy player, five goals he got during All Ireland Final appearances. I'm not sure Kilkenny would have won in 2014 without him. Best wishes to him. 222 (UK) - Posts: 681 - 19/01/2016 10:27:29 1817551 Link 0 |
Ah loved this guy sad to hear he had to retire up there with all the Kilkenny greats an outstanding hurler who had it all. clondalkindub (Dublin) - Posts: 9926 - 19/01/2016 10:46:37 1817555 Link 0 |
A shame he's had to quit due to injury problems. I remember seeing him first as minor against Galway. You could tell that day that he was going to be a bit special. Maroonatic (Galway) - Posts: 1060 - 19/01/2016 10:47:25 1817556 Link 0 |
It's very sad...he's only 30 but has already achieved so much. At his best, almost unmarkable. keeper7 (Longford) - Posts: 4088 - 19/01/2016 10:59:01 1817564 Link 0 |
Another top Kilkenny hurler to retire.A great man to win hard ball, especially in the air.Turned the 2009 final v Kilkennys way with winning the late penalty(no penalty by the way). Also scored a late first half goal v Tipp in 2010 final and played a big part in beating Tipp in 2014 draw and replay.Seems like a top lad off the field too.I met him in Lucan a couple of times and we had a brief chat.Enjoy your rest Richie.Well earned. cuederocket (Dublin) - Posts: 5084 - 19/01/2016 13:17:30 1817626 Link 0 |
Will this make KK much weaker than last year considering he had not played all that much? Pretty doubtful. I think this KK panel is at its weakest it has been in a few years but the problem is that everyone else has become weaker as well. Unless Waterford make as much progress this year as they did last and unearth a few scoring forwards or if Clare regain the form of September 2013 or if Limerick fulfill their potential, there won't be a challenger. Tipp are a substantially weaker force. Cork need more time. Galways don't have the stomach for it. Can't see anyone stopping them. hurlinspuds (Cork) - Posts: 1494 - 19/01/2016 13:31:39 1817632 Link 0 |
Yes spuds i agree this Kilkenny panel is at its weakest in over 15 years. As you said, the problem is the challenge from the rest of the counties. cuederocket (Dublin) - Posts: 5084 - 19/01/2016 14:15:54 1817656 Link 0 |
Richie Power was an excellent player. slayer (Limerick) - Posts: 6480 - 19/01/2016 15:09:16 1817689 Link 0 |
Slayer,it would be great to see Limerick win the All Ireland.Ye bring great colour and a vociferous crowd to big hurling games. cuederocket (Dublin) - Posts: 5084 - 19/01/2016 15:35:59 1817703 Link 0 |
Remember seeing him playing minor for Kilkenny in his two years at minor and he was fantastic was well above the others . I knew from then he had the potential to be some special . He is one of my favourite hurlers over the last 15 years. Can't believe he only won 2 All Stars . Sad to see injuries finish his career. Wouldn't surprise me to see him back if he can sort out the injuries over the next year as he still is only 30 dubshurling7 (Dublin) - Posts: 1017 - 19/01/2016 18:10:17 1817758 Link 0 |
Of all the retirements of Kilkenny greats in last few years, I think this one is tinged with sadness and some regret. Catmandu (Dublin) - Posts: 6 - 19/01/2016 18:26:28 1817765 Link 0 |
Your right about the bets catman. That's where i bumped into Richie myself a few times in Lucan.Funnily enough,Cha was there a few times also.Think they were sharing a house out this way.Sound lads. cuederocket (Dublin) - Posts: 5084 - 19/01/2016 18:45:29 1817771 Link 0 |
Shame to see a 30 year old having to call it a day. More evidence of the demands on intercounty players nowadays. Dubh_linn (Dublin) - Posts: 2312 - 19/01/2016 21:01:26 1817822 Link 0 |

we met Kilkenny in the 2012 quarter final. at the start of the second half, Wayne McNamara buried Richie Power with a shoulder. Power was groggy and had to go off, possibly was a concussion as far as I remember. Then Cody put on TJ Reid. Hardly any Kilkenny lads complained about the shoulder and then Kilkenny opened us up with two goals in quick succession. slayer (Limerick) - Posts: 6480 - 22/01/2016 13:03:23 1818479 Link 0 |
