Are Slaughtneil special?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Recently Slaughtneil of Derry won county titles in football, hurling and camogie. Are they the first club to do this in one year? Have many clubs won their county title in the three codes? Has any club won a title in 4 codes, including ladies' football?

Claughaun won the Limerick Senior Hurling & Football titles of 1986.

Hospital Herbertstown won the Limerick Junior titles of 1983.

It is somewhat of a rarity to do it at Senior these days I'd imagine, but throwing in the camogie also it looks pretty impressive.

The simple answer is yes, Slaughtneil are a special club, whether this has been achieved before or not. The double double is phenomenal and then the camogie on top of that is just special.......good luck to them

Yeah I genuinely think they'll beat cushendall in the hurling final as im not completely convinced by cushendall when they come out of antrim tbh.

Probably only between them and cross, maybe kilcoo for the football

yes. Fair play to them. St Finbarrs in Cork won 5 All-Ireland club titles between 1975 and 1987- 3 were football and 2 were in hurling. In 1980 they reached both All-Ireland finals. They lost the hurling that year to Ballyhale and won the football. Most of the players at the time were dual player as well. Donal O Grady, Jimmy Barry-Murphy, Eamon Fitzpatrick, Denis Burns, Christy Ryan were the main players that played in both final.

Yes Benny, The Barrs are amazing to be the only All-Ireland winners in both men's codes. Thankfully they didn't have to play both finals on the same day that year.

Slaughneil are showing those knocker within dual clubs who want one code that its better for the club to pull as One. Slaughneil was a hurling club that took up football in recent years and this stands to them when playing 'hurling clubs' they are very skillful and aware with the hurl while being extremely fit due to the football. As a Glensman I am very fearful for the Ulster final, Slaughneil by eight or more.

Seem to be a great set up. They will beat Cushendall handy enough. Antrim sides melt like snow off a ditch when they come up against teams with fight and fire in their bellies.

50/1 to win the all Ireland hurling, worth a couple of quid each way!

If only more clubs would try to emulate this! Derry have never had an Ulster senior club winner in hurling & what a lift it would surely be to hurling in the county if Slaughtneil were preparing for an All-Ireland semi-final against the champions of Leinster, Munster or Galway.

Slaughtneil were always a football club from it's foundation. They didn't take up football recently. It's been a dual club for almost all of it's existence though! A very special and well run club

Considering they won the Ulster football club last year then they are in with a good chance of winning the ulster club double too. How likely are the camogs to win ulster?

Don't forget that they won the Derry Minor Football Championship at the weekend too! Unreal club at the moment, people need to look at how they are working with all codes and use them as a template! No excuse for non-dual clubs anymore!

Slaughtneil are a different kind of gravy! Always in my living memory they have been a dual club in the mens codes and a camogie club. They all live for the betterment of the club across all codes with very little, if any cross-code envy or jealousy. They way it should be for all clubs, not just a small rural club!
