TJ Reid pretty has hurler of the year in the bag but who will get the other two nominations? Seamus Callinan probably should, and Joe Canning maybe? MiAmigaVERONICA (Clare) - Posts: 299 - 03/10/2015 09:04:51 1795354 Link 0 |
Canning won't even get an all star pj_mcmanus (Limerick) - Posts: 431 - 04/10/2015 19:30:00 1795702 Link 0 |
Reid will get it because people are in thrall with kk, and they have to be the best at everything, but he isn't half the hurler callanan is. 1 score from play in the final (albeit a goal) and 1-2 against Waterford. If he was from another county he wouldn't get it, callanan would, like brogan won it back in 2010 (?) flack (Dublin) - Posts: 1054 - 04/10/2015 19:56:02 1795715 Link 0 |
Saemie Callinan would be my vote. Had Bubbles O'Dwyer hit that free over the bar in last years drawn game Callinan would have won the award it was that close between himself and Richie Hogan. Since then his performances haven't dropped and if some of his team mates been as consistent as him with their performances it would have been an easy decision for Callinan as at the very least he would have been in another AI final. TJ Reid is a very good hurler but if I was given a choice of him or Seamie in my forward line when the chips are down I'd take the Tipp man every day of the week. canning had a poor year by his high standards, Callinan gets my vote - I think he is a way better player and had a way better championship than Reid. McFan88 (Limerick) - Posts: 447 - 05/10/2015 15:19:47 1796038 Link 0 |
Reid will win it lads his been more consistent all year and probably unlucky not to win it last year. Seamie scored something like 5-20 where as Reid has around 4-32 albeit playing a game more. Seamie had a quite Munster Final where as Reid was more prominent against the same opposition. Same against Galway both went to town on their defence but Reid had to do it twice. Callinan will b happy with an all star but I'd b surprised if he win HOTY. WildPundit (Tipperary) - Posts: 1709 - 05/10/2015 19:43:53 1796149 Link 0 |
I presume mentioning Joe as a possible HOTY is a joke! westisthebest (Galway) - Posts: 444 - 05/10/2015 20:18:37 1796161 Link 0 |
Seamus Callinan should get hurler of the year. No debate really. geoff (Tyrone) - Posts: 377 - 06/10/2015 08:29:03 1796211 Link 0 |
Fortunately there will be plenty of debate! It just shows how little some posters know about how HOTY is decided. Whichever player gets it will deserve it and won't be awarded it just because of what county he's from. HOTY is decided by the players, not by a panel of journalists. So, questioning the final outcome is questioning the players! westisthebest (Galway) - Posts: 444 - 06/10/2015 10:12:03 1796240 Link 0 |
Callinan for me. Reid up there too while Canning less so. Dubh_linn (Dublin) - Posts: 2312 - 06/10/2015 10:41:04 1796261 Link 0 |
TJ Reid would be my choice. slayer (Limerick) - Posts: 6480 - 06/10/2015 10:42:04 1796262 Link 0 |
Joe Canning isn't even nominated so forget about him. As I said, the players do the voting and I can't think of any better endorsement of HOTY. westisthebest (Galway) - Posts: 444 - 06/10/2015 10:48:56 1796268 Link 0 |
Way better is stretching it, westisbest, he got one lucky goal due to a mess up in Waterfords defence, and two points from play, anyway the litmus test has to be against Galway, obviously, them being AI runners up, and generally considered second best team this year. The fact that people go out if their way to find a rival that Reid (arguably) played better against (Munster runners up-wtf!) goes towards proving my point that folks are in thrall to kk. I've no tipp connections at all, but Callanan has been the best hurler in Ireland by some distance for the last two years. flack (Dublin) - Posts: 1054 - 06/10/2015 14:29:09 1796408 Link 0 |
It doesn't matter if the media etc are enthralled or not by Kilkenny, it is the players who chose HOTY, and they ought to know a thing or two about what it takes to be deserving of the award. I for one will accept their decision, indeed a lit quicker than I would if it were down to journalists - or posters! Whoever gets it will be very deserving of it and deemed to be so by their peers. westisthebest (Galway) - Posts: 444 - 06/10/2015 19:04:36 1796537 Link 0 |
TJ Reid hurler of the year is a no brainer despite some of the Flack he's getting here. dubarra (Wicklow) - Posts: 541 - 06/10/2015 19:20:18 1796542 Link 0 |
Flack god bless your ignorance, is work rate not what makes a good hurler. johnwhite12 (Kilkenny) - Posts: 306 - 06/10/2015 21:03:21 1796587 Link 0 |
Players are well influenced by the media flack (Dublin) - Posts: 1054 - 06/10/2015 21:06:16 1796588 Link 0 |
What do you mean about the media influence funny coming from Dublin johnwhite12 (Kilkenny) - Posts: 306 - 06/10/2015 21:47:05 1796608 Link 0 |
Well, for some, it would appear the only acceptable way, for them, to select HOTY is for posters to decide! westisthebest (Galway) - Posts: 444 - 07/10/2015 09:25:39 1796630 Link 0 |
If work rate was all thats needed to make a good hurler I'd.have a bag of county medals. And our earnest-but-clumsy junior c fullback would have a mantlepiece groaning under the weight of allstars and hoty gongs flack (Dublin) - Posts: 1054 - 07/10/2015 11:32:11 1796694 Link 0 |
