I am not going to claim to have a great knowledge of Laois football but what has Colm Parkinson actually done for Laois. I know he played but he transferred to a Dublin club. Is he involved in any development squads or anything? Elvisahaha (Mayo) - Posts: 36 - 01/10/2015 08:12:04 1794496 Link 0 |
Going by his comments on air, he isn't. slayer (Limerick) - Posts: 6480 - 01/10/2015 09:57:39 1794534 Link 0 |

On Newstalk and has an opinion on everything. Fair enough its a sports show but doesn't strike me as a guy who knows too much about anything other than Football. Dubh_linn (Dublin) - Posts: 2312 - 01/10/2015 17:54:53 1794873 Link 0 |

Man with no involvement in county is finished with them. I'd say they can live without him. CastleBravo (Meath) - Posts: 1639 - 01/10/2015 19:21:42 1794914 Link 0 |
I think CP is a bit bitter about Laois football and Portlaoise over the last number of years. As we all know both (especially the county team) under achieved considering the talent at their disposal. CP sees himself as a victim of this situation but perhaps he was part of the problem along with many others. It's too late now for Laois as this golden generation are all well into their 30's. He could also be keeping his profile in the limelight and so promote his career and radio gig. Redslayer (Westmeath) - Posts: 100 - 01/10/2015 20:58:14 1794947 Link 0 |
Colm means he is finished supporting laois. He is not bitter about anything and he says it as it is. He is a great pundit. His opinion is that the new manager is not up to the job and that the laois cb are ruining laois football. He has a point. He is always passionate about laois on newstalk. jj72 (Kildare) - Posts: 53 - 01/10/2015 22:00:59 1794968 Link 0 |

slating and slagging off is often confused with 'passion'- Parkinson could be a lot more reasonable and measured in his remarks considering he won very little as a player. ' remember that all Ireland where Parkinson had a blinder' is not a line you hear in GAA circles but he talks as if he has 15 medals. Never beat the dubs when it mattered as a player but finds it easy to slate others who can't beat Dublin. Now thrashing the manager before he has even had 1 training session with the players, how very supportive! switec (Kildare) - Posts: 525 - 02/10/2015 09:50:02 1795009 Link 0 |
This all reminds me of when J O'Neill was appointed Fermanagh manager a few years back. Similar to Parkinson now, a lot of people could see it was a terrible appointment of a poor manager, but the appointment was made and we entered a period of division four football where dozens of players walked away from the county team because of said manager. What parkinson has won as a player is irrelevant. He is there to give his views and opinions. Pat Spillane won 8 all ireland medals and still talks rubbish and imo is a terrible pundit. Give me parkinson any day. jj72 (Kildare) - Posts: 53 - 02/10/2015 10:59:43 1795050 Link 0 |
I think Parkinson is great on Newstalk. It doesn't matter how successful or otherwise you consider his career (more successful than 99.9% of his critics), he's entitled to his opinion. Breffni40 (Cavan) - Posts: 12101 - 02/10/2015 11:04:57 1795054 Link 0 |
Disagree. Players with experience of winning all Irelands have more understanding of what it takes to win, and have more credibility in their views. Not all but some. Parkinson's opinions to me are irrelevant,, won little or nothing, not really regarded or remembered in other counties for anything, had a few good games and plenty of bad ones, no real reason to listen to him. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but when you have won and done nothing, a little humility and balance in your views means you have a better chance of being taken seriously. switec (Kildare) - Posts: 525 - 02/10/2015 11:15:01 1795061 Link 0 |
I wouldn't be a huge fan of Parkinson as a pundit but what he did or did not win is irrelevant as a pundit. MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13692 - 02/10/2015 11:17:37 1795063 Link 0 |
