Time given to taking of free kicks

What do posters think of Bantys proposal that a twenty second time limit should be placed on the taking of a free kick? I personally would go for a ten second time limit.

Sounds good, Cluxton fairly took the p*ss on Sunday, not that it would have made any difference to the outcome but another day it could have...

ten seconds, even 20 maybe, too short, more of an advantage to the fouling team if the free-taker is under pressure. Cluxton does take far too long to get down to take his frees, but Coldrick definitely added that time on on sunday.

If Cluxton spent less time coming up for frees and more time settling himself to take them, he surely wouldn't miss as much.

20 is reasonable. 10 seconds is a bit rushed. Your free taker could have been tackled heavily and to make him take the kick within 10 seconds afterwards is probably unfair. It definitely needs to be addressed though.

10 seconds definitely isn't enough. Barely gives your free taker time to get to the spot to take the free let alone settle himself and kick it.

good rule if it came in. gaa time keeping is a laugh though. you see 3 mins injury time in a 35 min half and somehow they can get 2 mins injury time in a 15 minute extra time half!! it would be interesting to see how long the ball was actually in play during the 70+ mins last sunday.

Completely agree, if an outfield player had taken as long as it took Cluxton he would've surely been penalised

10 seconds is too short. Twenty would be about right and if the team that conceded the free kick messed around with the ball/opposition then the referee should be able to move the free up ten/twenty metres....

This should not turn into a cluxton issue, but it needs to be sorted either stop clock or set a time i think 30secs is plenty cluxton, tyrone keeper , and all take the p*ss when coming up.

I thought the was already a 30 second rule, I know in club football in Mayo if you take too long thinking about a free the ref will hop the ball instead

Cluxton uses about a minute per free as far as I recall so any move to offer 30 seconds to the taker would probably be seen as anti Cluxton?

In fairness it has turned into a bit of a circus for Dublin's frees and could have cost them dearly this year.

Just add the time on at the end.

A much simpler solution than rewarding the indiscipline of one team.

Personally I would like to see the player fouled having to be the one taking the free kick. Would up the skill level in the game and speed it up considerably.

He was only taking the them in the Final when Rock went off, bar the long range one he pointed in the 1st half which was outside Rock's range.

One match and it all kicks off, now people are worried about the time the ball was in play?????

They banned ball boys giving him the ball because he was kicking them out too fast speeding up the game, hence longer time in play.

So Jesus lads make up you mind

Not sure why the clock system used in the ladies game isn't used particularly from qtr finals onwards then the clock could be stopped for frees that were being taken off the ground .. bantys idea would be too hard for ref to monitor and keep track of they have enough rules that they are not getting right without adding this to the mix

Great idea - much like in the AFL. I know my own county take the goalkeeper up and it annoys the life out of me whether it goes over or not is not the point - someone said add more time at the end, that does not address the issue of momentum, if you take the keeper up you kill the game for 90 seconds. 90 seconds in the GAA is a lifetime, it shouldn't be allowed.
