James McCarthy

(Oldest Posts First)

The single most under rated footballer in Ireland

How he wasn't even nominated for MOTM on Sunday was incredible!!
He is as good a wing back as there is in Ireland and he will probably lose out to Lee Keegan for an All Star to fill the "quota system" the all stars seem to use.

I wouldn't swap him for Keegan, not a hope in hell. Strength, power, kick passing, he is a sight to behold running with the ball, and his defending is incredible. How many times do you see him come out of defence with the ball into his chest powering past lads.

And that's nothing against Lee, who is a super player. But for me, McCarthy is irreplaceable. I honestly believe the 3 best half backs in Ireland play for Dublin. I really believe that.

Been saying that a while. Lee Keegan is a fine player and a great season. Despite that, JM topped his performance in the replay. Was faultless and dragged Dublin back into it.

Frank McGlynn. That is all.

Lee Keegan is the best wing back in the country in my opinion.

We're very lucky in Dublin to have basically the 2 next best players in Jack and James.

I love watching both lads play, as well as Keegan.

All three really show everything that is good about Football.

A credit to their counties and clubs.

Agree fully with MesAmis, they are fantastic players and should be roll models for young half backs breaking into the big-time. McGlynn was a delight to watch but the hard graft put in over the years may be catching up with him now.

James McCarthy is the best half Back in Ireland bar nobody. An absolute powerhouse both going forward and in Defence.
His point against Mayo in the replay was the start of the comeback.Superb footballer.

James McCarthy is an absolutely immense player. He typified Dublin's winning mindset on Sunday. Tremendous sportsman and a credit to his county. A shoe in for an All-Star in my opinion. He is a rock, one of the foundations this team is built on.

I don't think if Keegan of all people gets one it will be because of a quota but because he deserves it. There definitely is a quota though. Of course you wouldn't swap him, I wouldn't expect you to nor would we swap Keegan. Would Donegal swap McGlynn, Tyrone swap Harte or Monaghan swap Dessie Mone? I doubt it. I still don't think McCarthy is that over-rated since he got an all-star when he probably didn't deserve it. I think if anyone will lose out if he gets one this year (which he would be worthy of) I think it would be Cian. Unlike many for us over the two semis, bar one missed point, Keegan was brilliant and got the better of Connolly as well.

James Mc Carthy would have been my man of the match. Superb footballer I can't recall anyone ever giving him a roasting over the last 5 yrs

Lee Keegan is the best half back in the country, a brilliant marker combined with exceptional attacking skills. He has more points from play in the semi finals and finals that Mayo have played in than Cillian O'Connor. Keegan was superb against Donegal and had 2 great games against Dublin, he deserves an All Star ahead of McCarthy.

I always thought Keegan was better, but McCarthy was better than him this year, flawless and inspirational, especially when really needed

Liam, Dublin have benefited from the quota system more than most over the years - no point bickering now that the shoe is on the other foot (tho as stated above, in Keegan's case it wouldn't be - he is the best half back in the country. Himself and McCaffrey will get the all-stars)

Eh last years semi final ?? He was shredded. When Toye came on he took him apart and the game turned. It was the one game last year in which he was called upon to defend and he didn't do so. He got an All Star last year when he shouldn't have. Dessie Mone was well ahead of him. He is much improved this year and his performance in the final was terrific.
