I see last night the Tyrone co board delayed making a decision on reappointing Mickey as their senior team manager although he wants to continue. I hear not only clubs within our county are not in agreement as to who whether Harte should continue in post. Also, sponsors are putting pressure on the co board over the fact that Mickey refuses to speak to RTE and as a result they are not getting the exposure from their sponsorship as they would like. My feeling is that a new manager may be about to be recruited as some thoughts have already been discussed on that route by co board members. Up4it. I think the problem may be more to do with the length of contract. I see they are meeting with Harte and the U-21 managers soon, my take on it would be to discuss a timeframe for the U-21's to takeover, may it be 1 or 2 years. I think Tyrone are strong at U-21 level again this year, I would give Mickey another year and let Logan, Canavan & Dooher take over after that. Saying that, this is all guesswork on my part. I have great respect for Harte but sometimes a change is a great thing. Tyrone would have little trouble attracting most big managers......maybe Harte will cross the border and give Derry a whirl ;) DoireCityFC (Derry) - Posts: 1580 - 02/09/2015 10:20:11 1780434 Link 0 |
Not surprising news but who is likely to take over if he goes? WestRules (Galway) - Posts: 269 - 02/09/2015 11:58:22 1780525 Link 0 |
Jim McGuiness should come over from Scotland and sort it out TyroneLegend78 (Tyrone) - Posts: 52 - 02/09/2015 12:41:55 1780566 Link 0 |
Yes. Harte has to go. He doesn't give good TV. He doesn't play sponsor's prize monkey. He's a rank amateur... er, actually, can I rephrase that. plike (Kerry) - Posts: 569 - 02/09/2015 16:02:56 1780749 Link 0 |
If they are being smart (oxymoron, smart county board) they will want to create a succession plan e.g. the transition of the U21 management team to the senior squad. Having Harte a willing part of that process would be clever. And having him in a couple of years stepping into a role with the minors would be a great use of his talents. liamoggordon (USA) - Posts: 13 - 02/09/2015 16:30:13 1780780 Link 0 |
I'm disappointed to learn that a Tyrone spomsor is putting pressure on co board officials and suggested an approached to Jim McGuinness. I believe that Mickey deserves to managed through a proper exit strategy where he is stepped down to use his talents with the minor team squad rather than a push at this time/ Up4it. Mickey Harte has now not spoken to RTE in four years so it no wonder Tyrone's sponsors feel they are not get value in media coverage for they financial investment in the team and management and in effect Harte is paid by these business people. I would say to sponsors and anybody delaying the re-apoointment to be careful what you wish for. MH has kept a very average county around Div 1 these past five years and continued to ensure they were competitive. This is not to mention the 3 All Irelands. Tyrone is a huge county and there is a demand from clubs to be part of the county set up and an even bigger demand for success. If MH situation is not handled right there could be a huge split. I reckon he will stay on but there appears to be moves around ensuring he will have to hand over to the U21 management team of this year probably within the next year.... this may not be a smooth transition if there is potential of another All Ireland. sam1884 (UK) - Posts: 999 - 03/09/2015 08:50:58 1780969 Link 0 |
Sorry, I just cannot believe anyone would be thinking of getting rid of him. slayer (Limerick) - Posts: 6480 - 03/09/2015 09:42:04 1780995 Link 0 |
I don't think it is time for Mickey to go but maybe soon, As someone said previous its not whether Tyrone want him to stay on for its the length of the contract of whatever it may seem to be. Find_the_space (Tyrone) - Posts: 313 - 03/09/2015 10:34:03 1781054 Link 0 |
liamoggorman , Liam I take it your a exile in USA and dont get a chance to keep up to date on the old Gaelic Football. Firtly we have 50 Clubs in Tyrone so dont think we are to bad on the pool of players to pick from, not forgetting Tyrone is a Gaelic Football County more so than Hurling. Secondly you think it may be 10 years before another good crop of players come along, 2015 All-Ireland Champions TYRONE, several of these players have been playing on the Tyrone Senior Team this year with no doubt more pushing for places next year, no doubt the talent is in Tyrone we are a county on a upward spiral after having to re build for a few years, and pushed the reiging All-Ireland champions all the way in this years all Ireland Semi Final. The Red Hands are on the charge again. Tir'Eoghain Abu'. TyroneUltra (Tyrone) - Posts: 307 - 03/09/2015 12:45:47 1781189 Link 0 |
If he goes, it would be great to see him in Cavan or Fermanagh... anywhere in fact apart from Croke Park (boom, boom). plike (Kerry) - Posts: 569 - 03/09/2015 16:41:39 1781482 Link 0 |
@WestRules - Mickey Harte has very good reasons for not speaking to RTE after what they did. They then compounded it with a claim that their belated apology had been accepted, which appeared to be news to him. If a sponsor is trying to put pressure on the Tyrone board to get rid of him that's pretty bad given what he's done for Tyrone. Ailteoir (Galway) - Posts: 859 - 03/09/2015 17:39:05 1781544 Link 0 |
with the tyrone under-21 management resigning en-masse does this now pave the way for messers Canavan,Logan and Dooher to take the reins from Mickey Harte in the senior set-up ? s goldrick (Cavan) - Posts: 5518 - 15/09/2015 19:11:16 1787893 Link 0 |
Hartes row with rte is personal. It should not spill over to the tyrone senior football team not speaking to rte after games in case it upsets mickey or ruins their own chance of a team place. No sponsor is requesting or putting pressure to have him removed. If you pay out the sort of money mcaleer and rushe are paying then you want your brand and the players bearing that brand representing you in your biggest / nearest market place. Is that too much to ask? The statement also from the county chair earlier this month said they would be meeting with the manager and reviewing the current year and plans for 2016-? no where did she imply that he would have to sit an interview if he wanted the job as is being bandied about in certain media outlets and b the mickey worshippers mainly west and north of ballygawley roundabout.Ask most east tyrone clubs if he should get staying on and you'll not find many takers, hence the clubs having no say this or nominees for the post. As for the u21s management stepping down word is financing of the team is the main reason { considering the problems they had at beginning of the year over gear etc it's not surprising } Also from the talk and it's usually not far off in this neck of the woods he'll get another year or so but the size of the panel and backroom hangers on will be severely curtailed, which I'm not sure he'll agree to as he made up the rules of how many players etc he wanted and that's what it is. Now for the biggy. Has the white elephant on the top of the hill { garvaghey } with all it's pomp and glory started to bite back with the costs of keeping it running. Don't see why canavan especially would want the hassle seeing as he's rightly sorted with his teaching and media jobs. It may be a great honour and privalige to manage your county but the expectations of a lot tyrone supporters has been whetted wit 030508 and the hunger for more and the next managers may be judged very harshly. It's 9pm now so the sparks could be flying but I'm sure we'll know before morning. ubahdaur (Tyrone) - Posts: 6 - 15/09/2015 21:01:27 1787944 Link 0 |

Mickey is staying with the seniors for 2 more years. I think it's a good decision,he is staring to get the best from the current group. Logan,Dooher and Canavan are to continue with the U-21s also. Good times ahead :) seanie_boy (Tyrone) - Posts: 4235 - 15/09/2015 21:16:30 1787955 Link 0 |
I am a big Harte fan, I think he will do well in there, but they must start getting youth into the tyrone team. I think there will be a last hurrah for this man and tyrone. We will see how he gets on in division 2, but it is a good place to winter if you need to regroup Donegalman (None) - Posts: 3830 - 15/09/2015 21:55:52 1787976 Link 0 |
