New Ref

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Guess the GAA weren't happy with Joe's performance yesterday. New referee for replay will be Eddie Kinsella.

I thought it was policy that the same ref never gets the replay?

Surely the Ref should be from Ulster or Munster considering there are Leinster and Connaught teams involved........

I think Eddie will be a lot tougher and a few lads better behave or could miss the final.
Maybe a stray dog with a 360 degree camera attached to its head could be the answer for all these off the ball incidents!!!!
Have a sense could be a more open game of football on Saturday.
Replays tend to take on a life of their own.

Have to say of all the seriousness on here today, this gave me a great laugh.

As long as the mutt wouldn't take off after a speed merchant like Jack Mc and hit the exit!

Thanks for getting me up to speed on that rule lads. 22 years in the states can make you a little forgetful on the rules ;-)

Did you not get to see the games on Setanta?

Just head down the sidewalk, past the trash can and right by the tomaydo joint is McGurrans Irish pub. Hopefully the owner is not on vacation and a quick call on the cell phone will get you in for some blood sausage and corned beef and cabbage ..............

The scene was Leinster SFC 1983, Dubs vs Meath. Referee picks up the ball to commence proceedings, launches the ball into the air at which point the lad beside me on the Hill roars out "Ah yeh biased bastard ref" … kind of sums up the frustration we Dubs have felt with officials down the decades.

Funny, but only because of the grain of truth in it. No matter who the ref is we always feel that we are going to come off worst of the decisions.

I'm just hoping for an impartial ref, but that is very hard to come by when the dogs in the street can see that the GAA are gagging to get SAM to the West as soon as possible.

OK the GAA have 5 days to sort out the absolute mess that is the officiating at these top games. Whatever body has to sit brown with Kinsella and this other six officials and devise a strategy where 'ALL' six draw the refs attention to foul play and to do this consistently throughout the game without fear of intimidation by players etc. If this is carried out in the first 10-15 mins this will set a precedent for the remainder of the game. I liked the way McQuillan consistently moved the ball forward for descent - it is consistency like this in all aspects of the rules that will change player attitudes!

Well said sam2008 Dublin done it 2 for 3 times and each time it was moved forward. They stopped doing it shortly after. Refs never change their mind. You often wonder why GAA don't use approach of Rugby where only captain can speak to d ref.

yeah thats it he consistently moved the ball forward for one team
but when o connor whinged every 5 minutes he failed to move it forward for the other
thats not consistency for both teams
just like the fact alan brogan was pushed in the back when picking the ball
up and thrity seconds later the mayo player was given a penalty for far less

It appears that consistency means giving your team all the breaks.

When you get a penalty that was outside the box, a point that was a free out, and 4 red card offences with only one guy sent off - and in injury time, I don't get what you have to be whinging about. Id personally be very happy if our lads got the same 'treatment' from the ref the next day that the dubs got on sunday.

I actually give credit to the majority of the Dublin players. They are good footballers who threw their bodies on the line time and again. But the moaning and crying their fans go on with would put you off them completely.

Knowing how the GAA always operates Kinsella will probably go overboard on Saturday.
There will be cards galore and afterwards all the critics will remount their high horses and ride off in the opposite direction to which they were previously travelling.

Then we will have a period during which the winners will be into lengthy appeals etc trying to get cards rescinded and keeping their minds totally off the final. And meanwhile the Kerrymen will be lying back taking it all in and laughing to themselves.
