The Maynooth train.

(Oldest Posts First)

Was on this train to Drumcondra again yesterday but I've never seen it so dangerous. After Louisa Bridge it was too packed to be letting anyone in but at every station to Ashtow people would jam themselves in.

Can they not run a direct train to Drumcondra from Maynooth and different trains in between to Drumcondra next Saturday. Probably not feasible next weekend but maybe for next year. Must be a similar story for other trains from other parts of the city.

Was on it also and couldn't agree more. The usual backward thinking from Irish Rail. 82000 people heading to a stadium that is served by the Maynooth line. What do you do? Stick to the normal Sunday schedule. There should have been trains scheduled every 5 mins. Unbelievable but not unexpected.

The Maynooth train is the best route into Croke Park from west espeically. Unfortunately it is operated by Irish rail, so don't worry the service is a disgrace anyway - use it daily. That could potentially ease the huge traffic issues and enable people to get and out of Dublin and what does irish rail do - nothing - provide a sunday service my god.

Can Irish Rail run a service on match days from Heuston to Drumcondra for those fans coming from the West and South of Ireland, using the tunnel under the Park. I recall it being used in the 90's on a match day. It will be fully operational next year.

Could be an option longbridge. Not sure if they can go from Connolly to Drumcondra without changing trains. Maynooth is a better option to Heuston if you're driving from the west although it can be tricky getting parking, especially next Saturday afternoon, hard enough finding parking most Saturday's. Not sure about this but can you buy a Maynooth to Drumcondra or Connolly return ticket for matchday from any train station ? Handy yoke to have to avoid the Q for tickets at the station.

They can indeed, if they want to. You'd go under the phoenix park tunnel. It's been there a long time - but not used for commuter traffic (yet, anyway).

I was on it myself from Louisa bridge where I parked. It was getting seriously dangerous alright with overcrowding. People trying to get on at every station, trying to push in. There was no room.

There was always this story going around western counties that you had to get the train from Maynooth before 11.30am as it would be thronged after that, yesterday I arrived in Maynooth just before 1pm parked up, bought my train ticket, walked onto the train and got a seat, the train wasn't full, as we journeyed towards Drumcondra more got on but still wasn't packed, the biggest problem was at Drumcondra where the crowd just stopped and it took a while for all the passengers to leave the platform, don't know what the problem was within the station itself
