Suppose it is better late than never. But again another example of the GAA reacting to the media. "I like analysis where people say something is wrong and where they point out that something could be improved. There's nothing wrong with that but using that type of language is not something I like." arock (Dublin) - Posts: 4892 - 25/08/2015 10:39:26 1775741 Link 0 |
I found the interaction between Whelan, O'Rourke and Brolly interesting on Sunday. Brolly has a terrible habit of talking under other people. Not over as he is not as loud, but others start talking and he talks in a lower less loud voice. slayer (Limerick) - Posts: 6480 - 25/08/2015 11:14:50 1775772 Link 0 |
Sky have now rte on the run. The analysis is clear and unbiased. It has much less ego, and it has freshened up the coverage. It is a pity that there is a financial angle to it, as many wont be able to afford to watch it without going to a friends house or going to a hotel or pub. (or go to the game itself). I honestly don't know what the panelists have been saying, I really have little or no interest in tv analysis, I just see it as filler tv but the president of the Gaa coming out criticizing them is a poor move from my point of view. All he's really doing is stating that he pays attention to them (their ultimate goal being attention) and that gives them a sort of credibility, just ignore them, it drives them insane. they have to try and keep the rating up for RTE etc ... the stuff brolly comes out with keeps people watching simple as . HurlerOnTheFenc (Mayo) - Posts: 282 - 25/08/2015 11:41:18 1775786 Link 0 |
About time someone in GAA Officialdom spoke up about unfair treatment of GAA on RTE in general. Of course negative incidents happen in GAA but they happen in all sports. There are brawls in other games (one in particular where it is benignly referred to as a bit of afters) Sledging frequently goes on in Cricket and rugby (some scrum halves were famous for it). If RTE were to act in a balanced manner they should treat all sports equally which they clearly are not. mod (Mayo) - Posts: 859 - 25/08/2015 11:43:07 1775789 Link 0 |
I personally enjoy it to be honest.. They speak from the heart and gut like most of us on here - which means they and we can get things wrong a lot of the time. AthCliath87 (Dublin) - Posts: 345 - 25/08/2015 11:46:05 1775791 Link 0 |
There is no point watching the analysis because Brolly will just interrupt everybody. Its becoming very tedious. Whelan and O'Rourke couldn't even finish the first sentence before Brolly would go off again. I hate to say it but if there were matches on both sky and rte id rather watch sky. cavan97 (Cavan) - Posts: 369 - 25/08/2015 11:48:27 1775793 Link 0 |
Agreed slayer. The whole thing is completely uncomfortable viewing with little quality analysis or debate going on. Brolly has too many axes to grind, while he has crossed swords with the other pundits. Sky are making ground on them, getting the likes of canavan and mcguinness in. Yes yes your are totally correct Brolly does butt in to other panelists contribution and it can be hard to watch! Haven't said that the Sunday Game would be dull without him. However, I think RTE will have to try and have better control over what these pundits say as it does too frequently cause offence to some players and their managers and some of the references used by Brolly are inappropriate such as on Sunday saying "what adults do in private is..."therefore please watch the language as it is OFFENSIVE!!! Sounds like Aogán is preparing the ground to give more leeway to Sky. Which would be a disaster for our games. I don't trust this guy. roundball (Tipperary) - Posts: 2514 - 25/08/2015 11:54:44 1775800 Link 0 |
You dont get any analysis just constant interuptions from Brolly and the bitterness of Spillane and O Rourke, O Rourke tried to suggest the O Se black card was a dive and then spent the rest of the time back tracking cos he had previously went over the top on Tyrone. Couple this with the carry on from Cake on the SG with his triangles, vertical balls etc. references and its like a scene from a Mario Rosenstock show. tearintom (Wexford) - Posts: 1304 - 25/08/2015 12:00:33 1775805 Link 0 |
I have met very few people in monaghan who find the experts on the Sunday game either negative or predictable. Remember they merely pointed out examples of cheating which stopped monaghan from winning the two all Ireland we deserved. With brolly acting as the referee policeman we now expect fair play and should win the titles that our wonderful team deserve. Typical of a cavan man to ignore the tragic injustice done to his more successful neighbours. farneyforsam (Monaghan) - Posts: 35 - 25/08/2015 12:17:55 1775828 Link 0 |
Master, I think Sky have left RTE behind . Their analysis is clear and insightful . The hosts are organised and address issues concerning the games. The whole thing is well structured . RTE's analysis is a lot less structured . Greengrass (Louth) - Posts: 6029 - 25/08/2015 12:20:13 1775831 Link 0 |
I don't bother with anything other than the live matches anymore as it's just tedious listening to certain people waffle on and on. uibhfhaili1986 (Offaly) - Posts: 1296 - 25/08/2015 12:27:37 1775841 Link 0 |
The GAA is badly run. The Sunday Game has been doing the opposite of promoting Gaelic Football for years and yet they continue to be awarded the main coverage. tyroneed (Tyrone) - Posts: 753 - 25/08/2015 12:31:28 1775844 Link 0 |
Very disturbing comments from our GAA President, personally I find watching Sky as interesting as watching paint dry and I believe RTE and their panellists offer far more passion on the game and better analysis. I'd rather see a game analysed by off the cuff outspoken individuals like Brolly, Whelan, O'Rourke, Spillane and McStay etc. I'm really starting to think there is a concerted drive to criticise RTE and the Sunday Game as much as possible and people should really start to see the wood from the trees in this regard Richieq (Meath) - Posts: 3734 - 25/08/2015 13:01:56 1775864 Link 0 |
I agree slayer re Brolly continually interrupting, it annoys me as well. Whilst I tend to agree with most of his comments I find it a touch dismissive of others opinions. bumpernut (Antrim) - Posts: 1852 - 25/08/2015 13:04:26 1775868 Link 0 |

Can anyone honestly say that the Sky football coverage is better than RTE? Peter Canavan and Jim McGuinness are the only ones worth watching. That this year there was no coverage of any of the quarter finals on terrestrial tv is not a good sign of things to come. Sky presenters have spent years telling people that every soccer game on the box is fantastic when it is not. We need Pundits to call it as it is, and if it's rubbish they should call it.. if it is a great game then the RTE pundits will also call it likewise.. There was a mistake on the penalty on the live show and it was corrected in the evening show, well done to RTE for doing this. It was the truth and they ran with it.. fair dues to them.
