Why can't counties learn the art of kick passing ? It's obviously trained into Kerry as they utilise it constantly and efficiently. Elvis1935 (Mayo) - Posts: 46 - 23/08/2015 17:52:36 1774699 Link 0 |
do they? I lost count of the number of hand passes Kerry made in a row when they went a few ahead. Not that I blame them, it was a slippery surface today in a game that the smallest of errors could cost you the match. The safe bet is the hand pass and if it helps teams ensure victory then they're going to focus on it more than an old fashioned hail mary boot into the air. Geanyes point in the second half was a beautiful footpass and a great catch and finish. Nothing hail mary about the pass and it looked fantastic. Why dont they just call it the ball game, the foot is just a seldom used option. ZUL10 (Clare) - Posts: 693 - 24/08/2015 08:26:11 1774913 Link 0 |
Kerry are by far the best team in the country with their foot passing. slayer (Limerick) - Posts: 6480 - 24/08/2015 09:34:39 1774943 Link 0 |

Quite a few fisted now that you mention it. ZUL10 (Clare) - Posts: 693 - 24/08/2015 21:49:06 1775644 Link 0 |
and there's quite a few headers scored in soccer but nobody is running around trying to change the name to 'headball'. You'd think hand passing wasn't part of the game back in the day, it's a crucial part of keeping possession which helps a team dictate the tempo of a game and Kery know this as well as any other team. Its like asking Barcelona to quit all that short passing and go route one like the good old days. SaffronDon (Antrim) - Posts: 2385 - 25/08/2015 12:38:09 1775850 Link 0 |
I don't think the problem is the players lacking the kicking skills Elvis, in every aspect of the game except high fielding the average player now has more ball skills than ever before. However I think the off the ball movement of a lot of players is quite poor these days, with the emphasis on having lads with endurance and who run in straight lines rather than specialist corner forwards with intelligent movement. Kerry still have players like Gooch and O'Donoghue who have excellent movement and footballing intelligence, which is why they can still play a kicking game. Brogan for Dublin is another specialist corner forward but these type players tend to be quite rare now. Soma (UK) - Posts: 2630 - 25/08/2015 15:24:00 1776001 Link 0 |
