After witnessing one of the all time greatest hurling games to light up Croke Park, it was a privilege to be in attendance and get the opportunity to shout on our county. My mind is still racing even today about the game and atmosphere which gets me thinking how sorry you have to feel for the weaker/smaller counties that never get to play in Croke Park yet alone a big match day with such an atmoshphere, the likes of Carlow, Leitrim, Roscommmon etc. Which begs me to ask the question, how many on here have never got to go Croke Park for an all-ireland semi final or all-ireland final? We don't get there ourselves too often but grateful we do every few years. sliotharfan (Galway) - Posts: 87 - 19/08/2015 10:43:27 1772349 Link 0 |
Have been there thankfully to see the boys in Green, but your point is a good one. I think the finals of all 4 competitions should be played on the same weekend in Croke Park. Bar terrible weather the pitch should be able to cope with the games but the most important thing would be to give players at those levels the opportunity to play in the stadium and to get a worthwhile audience via TV. slayer (Limerick) - Posts: 6480 - 19/08/2015 10:52:50 1772358 Link 0 |

Sure the club pass allows everyone from every club in every county access to quarter finals and semi finals. bumpernut (Antrim) - Posts: 1852 - 19/08/2015 10:57:54 1772366 Link 0 |
I was at the All Ireland Hurling Semi-final in 2005. Louth were playing London in the Nicky Rackard cup final. Galway were playing Kilkenny after it. A year later I was at the All Ireland football final. Louth were playing Leitrim in the Tommy Murphy cup final. Mayo and Dublin was on after it. Both semi-finals were thrilling matches. I was at the Meagher/Rackard/Ring tripple header at Croke Park this year. Seeing these teams battle hell for leather there was no feeling sorry for anyone. iv'e said it before but the almost non-existant promotion of these games is disgraceful, as is playing them off in May-early June, almost as if the GAA wants to just get them out of the way. muffinbutton (Clare) - Posts: 20 - 19/08/2015 14:31:57 1772552 Link 0 |

Lads the GAA is all about optimising revenues, TV deals, commercial opportunity, they do not want minnows like Carlow or the like cutting up the pitch or causing scheduling issues, a 11.30 am throw in before a minor or senior game? GAA in these places is massively under resourced, of poor standard, becoming less competitive at inter county level. We are fed pious platitudes, guff and rhetoric, whilst the outfits with big commercial clout can afford huge coaching structures, training holidays ...
