That's what happens when you let a bunch of as*holes run the country. This over governance filters down from the EU. Disgraceful, and the people in Kerry need to stand up against this fascist ruling.

Kerry people should anonomously put signs like this up in similar locations all over the county. That would sort the council and completely diluting their case.

You've hit the nail on the head. Over-arching, nanny state government.

If it was a sign for the Munster fecking rugby team there'd be nothing said to them. Supporting your local GAA team is not allowed though.

It's a joke of a country all right lads when you've got millionaire bankers walking around laughing after breaking the country and a poor old sleevene of a farmer from north Kerry is threatened with a 12,000 euro fine for putting up a bit of a sign.

Thought provoking comparison alright. The media is about to go into over-drive with the rugby lads soon enough, expect to see your newsfeed clogged to the hilt with soundbites like "legends" and "heroes".

They have been asked to remove the sign "A family in Kerry is facing a possible €12 million fine or two years' imprisonment if they don't remove a sign on their land" the key word if IF.

There is a loop hole, remove the sign and move it to another spot in the next field, they have to go and fine them all over again and then do the same again, I once saw a guard tell somebody to move his car, he did, 2 yards that's all he moved, guard just laughed, shook his head and walked away

I've a feeling they arent up for anything near a 12 million euro fine, its just that someone looked at the relevant planning law and it has something like "offenders face a fine of UP TO 12 million euro". They'd be fined a few hundred euro at most if it did go to court.

Same with the 2 years in prison bit, nobody ever has or ever will see the inside of a prison for erecting a sign.

Please explain how in the nameajaysis a local council decision down in Kerry is the fault of the EU.

It's quite amazing that these bureaucrats would concern themselves with such a trivial matter, especially with all of the other, real problems bedevilling rural Ireland at the moment. Apparently community pride is a bad thing: who knew?

I said governance of this nature is filtering down from the EU. As the Cavan man pointed out also. It's an over reaching nanny state mentality. Telling people what weights and measures to use,who can come in to your country. What is and isn't politically correct and on and on it goes.

The Kerry Council Staff in this dept are totally brainwashed premiership disciples who hate GAA & this is only the start of it...anyone using a car to travel to GAA matchs will pay double road tax is their next tactic.
