Lovely words from Quinner. A nice tribute for a great player. GreenandRed (Mayo) - Posts: 7290 - 15/08/2015 10:32:37 1770518 Link 0 |
Phenomenal player, as good as the likes of TJ and O'Dwyer are, Joe is that little bit special with an unmatched ability to produce moments of sheer brilliance and its his uniqueness as a player which sets him apart from the rest in my eyes shlapya (Galway) - Posts: 27 - 15/08/2015 10:56:56 1770541 Link 0 |

Great player no doubt, but i would rate JJ Delaney,TJ Reid,R Hogan,T Walsh & Henry as better players.Higher workrate is what sets them apart. My opinion only, but this has let Joe down at times over the years. cuederocket (Dublin) - Posts: 5084 - 15/08/2015 12:36:56 1770578 Link 0 |
High praise indeed. A player that promised to be one of the greats but many players who were not as gifted have worked harder and will be remembered longer. At 26 his best days seem to be behind him tiobraid (Tipperary) - Posts: 4119 - 15/08/2015 21:26:35 1770798 Link 0 |
Yes cue, Joe may be considered a little lazy for the cats. realdub (Dublin) - Posts: 8571 - 15/08/2015 21:37:26 1770807 Link 0 |

One of the best scores I ever witnessed was a point Quinn scored in the AI minor final in '83. On a blustery day he doubled on a ball in mid-air and sent in sailing between the Galway posts. I was at the Leinster final that year too when he hit three goals past Wexford. A former workmate hurled for Wexford that day and said later it was like trying to mark smoke he was so elusive. I might be wrong but I always thought Callinan was a couple of inches taller. MiAmigaVERONICA (Clare) - Posts: 295 - 16/08/2015 10:52:30 1770845 Link 0 |

Nothing against Joe, but I don't think he is even the best Galway hurler of all time. slayer (Limerick) - Posts: 6480 - 17/08/2015 09:31:43 1771181 Link 0 |
I think callanan is a better hurler anyway, a far better one recently flack (Dublin) - Posts: 1054 - 17/08/2015 09:54:00 1771201 Link 0 |
If Galway had lost yesterday a lot would have been down to Joe!! Missed a rake. witnof (Dublin) - Posts: 1604 - 17/08/2015 10:13:26 1771225 Link 0 |
Its a tough one re: Canning. He has such expectation, unless he scores 1-15 per game, people are saying he's poor. I admit I thought he was off radar again yesterday. while at the game, but then read the stats and saw highlights- he actually scored ten points, 4 from play. AS well as that, he created many chances for others, including the lovely ball for winning score, as pointed out by a poster above. Galway have moved on. The younger players are team players full of confidence. If Galway were still depending on Joe they'd have lost yesterday in a similar fashion to Tipp and their dependence on Callanan. Joe may have reached his peak by now but if he does have one more kick in him Galway will win the Final providing they don't gobackto over relying on him. westisthebest (Galway) - Posts: 444 - 17/08/2015 10:26:42 1771239 Link 0 |
Im sure he has plenty of kick left, he's on 26! Flanders (Galway) - Posts: 604 - 17/08/2015 10:32:05 1771243 Link 0 |
He needs to be careful on his tackling as well. Could easily have gotten a red yesterday for flick on Tipp defender, and previous days too. slayer (Limerick) - Posts: 6480 - 17/08/2015 10:39:38 1771249 Link 0 |
