Best sporting celebrations

(Oldest Posts First)

Some have been flamboyant (Lua Lua somersaults), some understated
(Shearer one hand in the air). What have been the best sporting
celebrations down the years???

As I Down fan I have to choose Gregory McCartan dive bombing in
front of Hill 16 after Down won the All Ireland in 1994 against
Dublin.A comedy moment.Hilarious!!!!

Frankie Carroll gave an exhibition v Antrim in the 1994 All Ireland semi final. After the game he chatted to someone in front of the Canal End where the Limerick crowd was congregated. After his chat he gave the trademark hand extended & thumb up to the crowd and got a massive cheer.

A Gas man. The hero of the 1996 Munster Final drawn game v Tipp.

I think in GAA elaborate Goal/Point celebrations have always been frowned upon,
with the exception of celebrating scoring against dublin in front of the hill,
(which is fair enough as the crowd was prob giving the player stick anyway).
Mulligans celebration in front of the hill stands out for me.

Best celebration for me is the 80's offaly player jumping up and down on the spot,
before my time, but saw it several times on reeling in the years re-runs

The best sporting celebration, in either hurling or football; is lifting Liam or Sam above your head.

I thought it was a bit sad actually. I was on the hill that day and remember thinking if I had just won an All Ireland, the first thing I would want to do is celebrate with my own team-mates, why bother goading opposition supporters?

Nothing against Dublin as they showed great spirit to get back into
the match as Down had dominated early on.They along with Kerry
are the two constants of gaelic football.

Dublin were then awarded an extremely debatable penalty when Down
were desperately hanging on for victory which infuriated then Down
players.Probably an expression of relief as much as anything.

Gregory McCartan had a penchant for an exttavagant celebration. He danced
up and down the touch line when they beat Derry in the opening round at
Celtic Park.

Spionkop I also remember at the end of that Dublin /Tyrone replay in 2005, mulligan went up to the hill and acknowledged the Dublin fans and got a great ovation for his efforts, it was good sporting behaviour from both parties. Mulligan has on numerous occasions said there's nothing to beat the atmosphere when playing against the dubs and complimented their fans for the colour and noise they bring to a game!

That goes without saying Dubjohn, that's why we all love the opportunity to have a crack at the Dubs come the business end of the championship, that's hard to beat.

Well bren I'm hopeful we'll dispose of Mayo in the semi and if you do likewise to the most cynical team in the country your wish may be granted! €
