Kerry vs Tyrone Aug 23rd

We might use this thread to discuss the actual game.

How do you see this one going?
Was very impressed with lots of what Tyrone did on Saturday.

Haven't been this nervous about a semi since I watched Brokeback Mountain ;-)

lol!classic superglue. never heard that one before but needless to say im going to use it and pass it off as my own.

As regards the football. I think this will be a good game but is just too soon for Tyrone. We will put on a good show but will get beat by 3-6 points.

nice one superglue :-)

While Tyrone were impressive on Saturday, if Kerry keep the heads in this game they should have superior firepower to take them to victory. Obviously there is the mental block of playing Tyrone, all the way back to that 0-13 to 0-6 game in 2003. The current Kerry side though has a nastiness and Machiavellian streak that allows them to be far more competitive than Paidi's (RIP) team or even Jack O'Connor's.

I predict Kerry by 7 points.

Cant see anything past a kerry victory! Tyrone are massive underdogs, but with all thats being said, im hoping it'll really fire the boys up, we're not being acknowledged by the the other 30 counties as being semi finalists, everyone is just talking about who kerry will play in the final, which is fine, im hoping we can run the kingdom close plus we've nothing to lose! But at the end of the day Kerry have the superior squad and ill go with Kerry to take it by 3!

Very impressed with the speed of Tyrone when breaking forward on Sat - they now seem to have lots of pace in the team. Game could look very much like last years AI final I think - Kerry parking the half back to avoid getting caught on the break and then being patient in attack when trying to pick off scores. Cant see Sheehan starting for Kerry (due to his lack of mobility) and the big call will be whether or not Donaghy is back in.
Key for Tyrone will be how they approach kick outs - Kerry will attempt to force Tyrone to kick to the middle of the field and take control of posession from there. If tyrone can succeed to flood the middle and break the ball then they're in business. If not and Kerry get a good share of posession then the Tyrone defense will face a test the likes of which they've not met thus far this year - a team carrying 6 forwards who can all do damage.
Think Kerry will create a decent platform at midfield to go on and win the game but it won't be easy...

Fully expect it to be the worst game in modern times, possibly 13 behind ball for Kerry and full 15 behind ball for Tyrone. Kerry hold three massive aces however, Bryan Sheehan's laser accuracy ensuring fouls will be punished and the two big lads inside for Kerry if/when combined in Donaghy and Walsh, and most important, the fact they have played against this tactic and won v Donegal in the big one last year. It promises to be a shocker to watch, but....it'll be intriguing. Kerry should win as they've got the better players but Kerry, like Monaghan, just mentally seem to have a problem with Tyrone. I don't think it will be one bit pretty I just hope it's hard, fair hitting and none of the nonsense we all witnessed at weekend.

After the Kildare game I stated that no one will get within 8 points of this Kerry team on their way to back to backs

I'm sticking to that

Kerry by 8

Tyrone just wont score enough

What I want to know is if we manage to go 4 or 5 points up at any stage in the game would Tyrone change their style and come out and play a bit of football? Or will they stick rigidly to their deffensive game plan at what ever cost like Donegal. The tyrone boys are well able to play football but will mickey Harte let them?

Hoping and praying for a Kerry victory. Tyrone through the antics of their minors, under 21s and seniors have taken the good name of the GAA into the gutter this year. Hopefully Kerry will leave them there on the 23rd.

I think Kerry record over Tyrone since 08 is fantastic. A lot of this team have never list to Tyrone in League or Championship. On the other hand Tyrone are going well. Donnelly is the main man. He drove them forward. All the critics will only be good for MH to get them going. Donaghy to start along with Buckley. Fitzmaurice pick the team on training.
Will Tyrone have lads up the tree in Killarney like Donegal haha? Poor match to watch but looking forward to it

Really looking forward to this encounter between the mighty kingdom of Kerry and Tyrone. Truth be told I can't see Tyrone winning this match at all. As someone stated Kerry are far too classy for Tyrone and simply won't put up with the diving, cynical tactics of Tyrone. What was witnessed during the Monaghan game was a shambles and hopefully the ref of the day will crack down on Tyrone's cynicism and play-acting. I mean it's bad when the Sunday Game are able to spend most of their analysis of the game highlighting the cynicism of Tyrone and their diving ways.

About the game - think Kerry's midfield is too strong for Tyrone and if Kerry use their heads wisely they will prevent Tyrone from using the short kickout because Kerry's midfield is probably the most superior in the country. The same goes for the forwards in Kerry. How many teams in Ireland can drop someone of Ciaran Donaghy's calibre and bring on someone like the Gooch?? Then there's hopefully O'Donoghue, Geaney, Buckley, Walsh etc...also the likes of Galvin, O'Brien, BJK etc if needed!! On paper this is a win for Kerry, here's me hoping anyway because I don't think anyone in the country can listen to another Joe Brolly rant should Tyrone progress to the final!! UP THE KINGDOM!

Quite sad to see the passionate hatred for Tyrone from some of our neighbours in Down and Donegal. To get so worked up over a game that has nothing to do with your own team is a bit pathetic. Still I guess jealousy will do that to some people. For the record I like every other Tyrone person I have spoken to was embarrassed with McCann's dive. There is no place for that, just like Michael Shields a few weeks back, although that didn't draw anywhere near the hysteria. As for the rest of the "incidents" Monaghan were at least as bad as Tyrone, and there wasn't much that I wouldn't see in any game at the business end of the Championship from any other teams. All that aside Tyrone played really well and were comfortably the better team against a team that was supposed to beat us. There are real signs that Tyrone are building a new team that can hopefully compete at the top level.
We are set up for a great contest with Kerry and I am really looking forward to it. Personally I can't see Kerry been beaten by Tyrone or anyone else this year and I expect them to progress. Kerry have match winners all over the park and more experience. It is probably a bit early in this Tyrone teams development. Tyrone are not without a chance though and they will be on a high after Saturday and further galvanised by the hatred whipped up against them. They are in bonus territory now with nothing to loose. They have plenty of young fresh players who can counter attack at pace and are well capable of giving Kerry a game. It wont be a free flowing affair of catch and kick football from either team, but it will be an intense tactical battle between Fitzmaurice and Harte where both sides will give their all. If you want to find negatives in that and allow it dominate your overall thinking then fine, but I am looking forward to what will be a great occasion and fascinating contest.

Hard hits, easy falls. Bit of goading, long balls. Blankets out, will be a sea of backs. Depending on the ref, could see a few blacks. Expect a few goals, predict more than two. Forget Spillanes 'Puke', will be more of a 'Spew'. But when the whistle is blown and the contest been won, it should be the men from the Kingdom who got the job done.

Johnboy trust me nobody in Cork or Limerick or anywhere in Ireland has ever rooted for Kerry to win a game of tiddlywinks, not to mind an AI semi final. Every final we've played in over the years including against Dublin we've been the 'bad guys' and I'd imagine most neutrals will want us to lose on the 23rd, certainly nobody from Cork will be rooting for us anyway I can guarantee you.
