It's disappointing to see so many empty seats at a semi final? Could the Gaa not discount the upper tier? wonit1time (Westmeath) - Posts: 450 - 10/08/2015 08:16:55 1766863 Link 0 |
Maybe not enough people buy into the view of hurling purists that is is the "best game in the world"?? football first (None) - Posts: 1259 - 10/08/2015 08:30:50 1766867 Link 0 |
42,000 isnt a bad crowd considering the senior game in particular was a forgone conclusion before a ball was thrown in, in all honesty. waynoI (Dublin) - Posts: 13650 - 10/08/2015 08:32:48 1766868 Link 0 |
Don't understand why the 'best game in the world' is thrown in. slayer (Limerick) - Posts: 6480 - 10/08/2015 08:40:17 1766871 Link 0 |
Would that not be an average crowd for a Hurling semi final? yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11227 - 10/08/2015 09:01:50 1766883 Link 0 |

As in the 70s with Football, hurling needs the Dubs to start winning All-Irelands and bring in the crowds!!!! witnof (Dublin) - Posts: 1604 - 10/08/2015 09:18:58 1766894 Link 0 |
Attendance must have been affected by the general acceptance that Kilkenny would inevitably win. When Kilkenny went 6 pts up in the second half I lost interest. Liverpool-Stoke held more interest by then. This procession of challenge matches for Kilkenny before the are presented with the trophy simply reduces the appeal of the hurling championship. It will be interesting to see if Tipp/Galway attract more people. offyertrolley (Leitrim) - Posts: 141 - 10/08/2015 09:27:55 1766906 Link 0 |
I was at the game. Was a little disappointed with the crowd.I was expecting 50,000.Between both counties the popoulation is approx 210,000,so not the biggest. The crowd was evenly matched.I wonder are some KK people, staying away from some games and picking and choosing when to attend.Even the couple of pubs i visited before game, were not as busy as usual. cuederocket (Dublin) - Posts: 5084 - 10/08/2015 09:27:59 1766907 Link 0 |
That wasn't a bad crowd at all. Kilkenny never bring a huge crowd, there is less than 100k in the county and I suppose it's just natural to start taking things for granted after a while. Waterford have had an outstanding year and the county really feel this team could be something special. With their new system and talented youngsters they felt anything was possible even upsetting kilkenny. Last year there was very few going to Waterford's games. If that team had laboured through to a semi final against Kilkenny there wouldn't have got 20k through the Croke Park gates. dahayeser (Cork) - Posts: 336 - 10/08/2015 09:36:18 1766914 Link 0 |

41000 is a very decent crowd nowadays . Weird thread - Why cant you judge a sport on how its played as opposed to who wins .. Unless youre a shallow jealous anti-hurling / GAA troll of course ... Finsceal (None) - Posts: 559 - 10/08/2015 10:56:21 1767024 Link 0 |
greatest game in the world only counts for the final.. The rest have been awful this year and a lot of them rather predictable.. AthCliath87 (Dublin) - Posts: 345 - 10/08/2015 11:09:07 1767039 Link 0 |
You should never judge quality by the size of the crowd - more punters would show up to watch the Beastie Boys than Beethoven. commercials1 (Limerick) - Posts: 115 - 10/08/2015 11:22:50 1767054 Link 0 |
Well I do think it is the greatest game in the world. My point is that our Rugby friends in Wales sold out a stadium for a friendly match by selling tickets for £20. I would be worried that even when you have the top teams in the country playing not many neutrals are interested. I wonder if you gave Michael O Leary the other 30,000 tickets to sell how would he get on? wonit1time (Westmeath) - Posts: 450 - 10/08/2015 16:07:53 1767388 Link 0 |
Knowing Michael O Leary,hed probably sell the 30,000 tickets,but be careful when buying a burger or a match day programme. cuederocket (Dublin) - Posts: 5084 - 10/08/2015 16:27:53 1767409 Link 0 |

Ten senior All-Irelands already won by Killkenny this century is too much for the neutral and is effecting attendances. fainleog (Limerick) - Posts: 598 - 10/08/2015 16:48:39 1767432 Link 0 |
