Michael Murphy out for Donegal

(Oldest Posts First)

Rumours circulating that Michael Murphy is out of the Donegal game. Huge news if true, massive psychological boost to Galway

His knee was heavily strapped with a skin coloured bandage in Ulster Final so if rumour is true I'm not surprised.

This is massive for Galway, not only does it give a boost to Galway's pretty strong midfield that Murphy won't be out the field at times and a huge relief for their weak full back line

Might be a good thing for Donegal players to prove they can win without Michael.

why would they keep him in reserve for next week, when they haven't won today just yet ?

counting chickens and all that

In the Ulster final M Murphy was nowhere near his best , in fact that day I thought M M, Colm mcF Ordan C Tote and M mcElhinney played poorly. To me that day the rest of the team carried Donegal. I think it gives a young lad a great chance to prove himself and I'd put H McFadden on the edge of the square
Nowhere might start Jigger or indeed Leo at full forward.
We will miss his long range free taking but P MC Brearty is a good free taker as is Colm MC F
M M has been doubled marked all season and he was finding it tough going as when he got the ball he was surrounded by 2/3 players
If I were Galway I'd worry how I'd cope with Donegals wall ( defensive system) and that's where I think the game will be won or lost If they can't breach the Donegal system I can't see Donegal getting beat I'm confident we will score enough

What they are trying to get across is that he is injured.
Would seem fairly obvious that's only reason

Best to rest him now for the next day if he's carrying any sort of knock. Saying that, not expecting Galway to be a soft touch, I'd say Donegal by 4-5, even without one of the best players in the country on the field. Just can't see Galway scoring enough against that blanket

If he starts on the bench then so be it.

The harsh fact of the matter is that if Donegal can't beat Galway, Murphy or not, then there is little point in them expecting to beat Mayo next weekend.

Donegal can't afford to be without him next weekend.
