The All Star centre back received a straight red card after striking Maurice Shanahan's faceguard with his hurl in the closing stages of Dublin's 1-19 to 2-21 All-Ireland SHC quarter-final defeat by Waterford last Sunday.
Rushe will now serve a one-match ban at the beginning of next year's Allianz League rather than at the beginning of the Leinster SHC.
listen these are amateur's . The give up time and effort train like demon's sacrifice large chunks of their lives. Rush was wrong definitely no question. would he do it again in the cold light of day no.
But to grumble that he wont serve his ban in championship is ridiculous. He was sent off and in my honest opinion i would eliminate the bans altogether. No player in any county should serve a ban due to a sending off. He /she misses the remainder of the game thus thats their punishment. But given the efforts they put in for our enjoyment once the game is over thats the end of it.
When i was growing up playing the game i was always thought what happened on the field stays on the field. Its a mans game and its gone too purified. Rules must be adhered to but once game is over leave it at that.
These are elite sports athletes that get paid nothing and provide us with hours of enjoyment.. There should be no bans of any description
Very difficult to understand unless there was an amendment to the rules prior to this years championship but it will be interesting to see how they have come up with this.
From what I saw on TV Shanahan was in Rushes ear throughout the entire game, taunting him, mocking him, and when Rushe lashes out (he's only human) the ref comes down on him, yet Shanahan gets off scott free. It is perfectly acceptable to provoke, yet when you react the system comes down on you like a tonne of bricks. Thats the double standard that does my head in.
