Fermanagh.

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

What a story.

What a journey.

When you see MEath fans on here moan and whinge, (and they aren't the only ones) about population etc etc, here are a team who have come from absolutely nowhere, to a quarter final of the championship, completely under the rader.

Brilliant what hard work can achieve.

Anyway, can Fermanagh beat Dublin ?

Yes well done indeed to them.

I admire the bravery of Pete McGrath. When they LOST to Monaghan he came out and said his ambition was to play football in August. That was might courageous given that his team had just been beaten. I am glad for him and them.

As for beating Dublin? They won't have an inferiority complex like other teams. That will help them. However, they will lose by however much Dublin decide they want to beat them by. This is useless to Dublin who will have another Division 2/3 team to prepare themselves for a game against Mayo or Donegal and then Kerry.

The pressure is massive on Dublin. The last two matches for Dublin are effective sudden death penalty shoot outs. No other team has that pressure. Dublin can really only lose an all Ireland. If they win, people will rightly say that they should be winning all of them. if they lose, they will say that the players cannot handle the pressure. Not a nice position and playing Fermanagh is not going to help.

Great progress by Fermanagh. Promotion to Division 2 and now a quarter-final spot. They just need to park their team bus now and hope for the best.

I think the Monaghan defeat was glossed,it wasn't as big as the scoreline suggested..

Like I said before they are the story of this summer regardless of what happens next Sunday and Fermanagh supporters will make the most their day at Croke park that's for sure.

Haha lads this is unbelievable. Not one Fermanagh supporter thought we would be this far. If pete keeps going the way he is there will be streets named after him in Enniskillen.

I think that Fermanagh's performances and progress this summer have come as a surprise to everyone, except Down fans. In Pete we trust...

Except, of course, when he was forced out from the Down senior job in 2002, overlooked despite expressing an interest in returning when James McCartan was appointed in 2009, and fired as minor manager in 2013.

Tough one , on the one hand I honestly want to say congrats , I love an underdog , but I cant see Fermanagh beat Dublin , I could come on here and blow smoke up your backsides and be condescending , what I can say is we need a tight hard fought game , if we get it then great . Hope you bring a big crowd .

Why is this game not played at a neutral venue? Clones would be ideal surely!

Well, Fermanagh have a chance. Not a big chance, but they will compete. Especially if Eoin Donnelly's injury clears up, there's good pedigree in that lad, he'll not stand back off anyone. Up Fermanagh.

Having to play Antrim twice has obviously stood Fermanagh in good stead.

Got milk, this is the second time in recent years that Fermanagh have gone on a great run. Do summers like this do anything to spread the game to "non-traditional communities" there? You know the ones I mean.

I lived in the north for a while and saw that success didn't matter in that respect, but I believe things are a bit different west of the Bann

Not really count. Although a lot of members from unionist communities do like to see the county doing well. It's only your hardliners and the likes of Tom Elliot and Arlene Foster who begrudge the team. In 2008 she kicked up a fuss about people putting up Fermanagh flags when we made it to the Ulster Final.

Fantastic achievement by Fermanagh in reaching Croke Park. Nice easy game next Sunday of course, would almost certainly be The Shock of all Shocks for them to pull it off but Pete McGrath deserves massive credit for what he has achieved this season.
