Paul Geaney

Lads what a player. I seen him close up in college. Despite his altercation him Shields have great time for him. A man for the big occasion. 1-2 in All Ireland final last year(won me a few bob) and got the crucial goal on saturday breaking our hearts. He dug Eamon Fitz out a hole last year scoring 6 points from play against Clare when they were in trouble. I suppose because he is in a team of stars his influence goes unnoticed. A great ball winner, can kick with both feet and never shies from hard graft . What are peoples opinion on him?

Was quite a good player in the league for Kerry. Very good in the air surprisingly. If he played for Meath for example, he would be unbelievable and would get a lot more credit, he is surrounded by so much quality in Kerry though

Super player & totally under-rated due to presence of Gooch, O'Donoghue & Donaghy around him. Donaghy got all the limelight for his goal in last years final but it was really Geaney's goal that rocked Donegal off their stride early on and set Kerry on their way. Similar crucial goal against Cork in replay but Gooch gets all the cudos. Hopefully he can also drive Dingle on to a Co. Championship win this year or next. That would be the pinnacle of his career & give him a tilt at Kerry captain also. Overlooked for an All Star last year in my opinion but is a cert for this year if he keeps his current run of form going. He's a tough ball winner with a great eye for positioning himself and kicking excellent scores off either foot.

I think he is a fantastic asset to the Kerry team and one of the most under rated players on the team. He should never be sitting on the bench. He imo is a certain starter and compliments O'Donoghue very well, I think a FF line of them two and Gooch would be better than having Donaghy minus the Gooch. But yes Paul Geaney is a brilliant player who is very much appreciated by the Kerry fans!

They have a great chance with Daithi Geaney back on board after his stint in Meath

It would be worth more than Sam to Dingle natives to land the Co. Championship. Hopefully all the Geaney brothers & cousins will play a big part.

geaney is a fine fine player has consistently improved year on since he has remained injury free, hos displays in Dingle's run to the county final few years back showed he has an eye for goal, as another poster suggested he is deceptive in the way that he evades attention as he is surrounded by players of the caliber of O'Donoghue, Star or Cooper, teams will have plans to double mark or sweep in front of these marque forwards resulting in Geaney getting space or half attention inside - his goal against Donegal was simple proof of this. He also has the ability due to his height to win independent ball either low or high and win a good few 50/50 balls in. I think what sets him above the likes of BJ Keane, Darran etc is he takes that second to size up his options dosen't snap shoot or being selfish he will choose the right option, shoot, hold up or lay off the pass.... he will become a serious serious player for us if he can remain injury free...

His well able to take a score and at crucial times too. i.e. that goal after like 40 seconds in the AI Final.
Is that a record does anyone know just off topic ???Or does some lad from Mayo or Galway hold the record at 25 seconds I may have heard a few years ago when I was living in Galway.

Paul Geaney is a good player. he is not a star forward but as a "supporting actor" so the speak he offers a lot. He's place is there for keeps for the rest of the championship and could easily move to full forward if needed.

I think you probably heard about Michael Moyles' goal for Mayo against Galway in 2002, when he slammed a 30 yarder into the top-corner more or less straight from the throw-in. Can't remember exactly how quickly he scored, though.

Geaney's an excellent forward, good in the air and distributes the ball well. He's very composed in front of goal as well, as he showed in taking his goal on Saturday night (it's very easy to snatch at such a chance). Quite underrated IMO.

I think he meant the fastest goal in an All-Ireland Final.

I think he is a great player and does not get the credit he deserves. He should have got the man-of-the-match award against Cork in the replay. He is good in the air, can score of both feet and plays well on the big occasion. He is not as flashy as Gooch, JOD and Donaghy but is as effective.

Good player, under rated. Should have been between himself and Moran for MOTM in the 2nd game against Cork.

Gary McMahon holds that honours for Kerry against Roscommon back in the 60s

Great player, scored one of my favourite points ever last year against Mayo. Can't find a clip of it but he dummied past a Mayo defender before stroking it over from a tight angle. Classy stuff.

His goal against Donegal was brilliant too as much as it hurt. He had a height advantage on McGrath but it's not as if Paddy wasn't closely marking him. Caught the ball and struck it into the net in one movement - nigh on impossible to defend once he caught it.

Solid first half again against Kildare. Two lovely points & unlucky not to get in for a goal.

Now I have huge respect and admiration for Eamonn Fitzmaurice so don't get me wrong here but I just cannot fathom how Paul Geaney not getting a permanent starting berth on the team. Surely his second half performance on Sunday will get him on from the start in the final.
