I can't believe fans are expected to travel to Dublin for these qualifier games on a bank holiday weekend. OK it may be great to get some game time in Croker for the teams, but surely there won't be over 30,000 at CP to watch these two standard qualifiers. The extra travel/expenses incurred by fans just isn't important to the GAA :( Galway v Donegal could of been in Roscommon (33,612) or Sligo (19,000) or Castlebar (38,000). Tyrone v Sligo could of been in Fermanagh(18,000) . Donegal_D (Donegal) - Posts: 61 - 21/07/2015 09:25:46 1756756 Link 0 |
Croke Park is broke. Al_Maguire (Donegal) - Posts: 240 - 21/07/2015 10:07:54 1756776 Link 0 |
Players of the 4 teams would rather Croker. waynoI (Dublin) - Posts: 13650 - 21/07/2015 10:08:10 1756777 Link 0 |
I don't think they were worried about how far fans had to travel when making this decision. The worst part of this is that Croke Park is a terrible place for a match when the stadium is half empty, the atmosphere is terrible. If you got 15K people at the Galway v Donegal match in Sligo, the atmosphere would be electric, however the same crowd in Croke Park and you could hear a pin drop. No doubt this has been said before but provincial losers should have a home draw. Adler (Monaghan) - Posts: 754 - 21/07/2015 10:50:56 1756798 Link 0 |
The players are the most important part of any decision and so they should. For some counties Croke Park is not a regular occurance. I have no sympathy for the fans.... it is about time the GAA put players first. sam1884 (UK) - Posts: 999 - 21/07/2015 11:02:25 1756805 Link 0 |
could have been a double-header in Breffni Park. s goldrick (Cavan) - Posts: 5518 - 21/07/2015 11:14:51 1756817 Link 0 |
I don't agree with it from a logistics viewpoint but from a Donegal team viewpoint I'm delighted - I think it will suit Donegal better than Galway. It will be a massive day out for Galway team playing a top four team at HQ whereas it's another day at the office for Donegal and a nice early run out at Croke Park as preparation for further days ahead. The lack of atmosphere will also better suit Donegal who will look to implement a clinical gameplan whereas Galway fans would have packed a provincial ground and would have much more chance of pulling off an upset if they had a big crowd roaring them on. I'm not doing the arrogant thing of saying Donegal will now win this handy or anything of the sort because Galway will potentially put up a formidable fight but I do think it swings it slightly further in Donegal's favour 2ndcumin (Donegal) - Posts: 22 - 21/07/2015 11:38:39 1756839 Link 0 |
Great point Al_Maguire, its a winner for SKY GAA and a two finger salute to everyone else concerned. Its common sense that a smaller ground would of been perfect for everyone (apart from SKY GAA who would have to setup cameras at two smaller grounds). SKY GAA will get to cut down on their costs if its Croker and they obviously now have a big influence on where games are played. Another bad day for the GAA who can't even make a decision without thinking of SKY now. Donegal_D (Donegal) - Posts: 61 - 21/07/2015 11:41:42 1756842 Link 0 |
On the evidence of last Sunday 2ndcummin I 'm not sure Donegal are a top 4 side anymore. They looked a tired team in my opinion. They may still have too much for Galway but they will get a trimming from Mayo . Barnowl94 (Galway) - Posts: 3150 - 22/07/2015 11:14:43 1757411 Link 0 |
I think Galway Donegal should have been in the Hyde or mayb Castlebar. Halfway house. A half empty Croke park will not help either team. galwayford (Galway) - Posts: 2513 - 23/07/2015 13:47:27 1757994 Link 0 |
