I would certainly not be happy with referee Lane

As I said on another post it is better Derry lock there changing room door, run onto their bus and get out of Pearse Stadium with mouths closed. Because I am sure if they talk it will not be pretty, seriously hard done by.

At least 3 match changing decisions go against Derry along with a plethora of soft frees. No justice done here.

I would not be happy with my team or coach . No ambition one trick ponies , defend defend defend, posters defended that tactic when they played us in HQ ,wonder now if they see the folly of Not having an attacking stratagey .
Cant believe that a county like Derry that this is the best they have in that county .

Soft frees both sides and one bad black card call from the ref against Derry but where was the Paddy Bradley red card???

@Toney - That's bull. Agreed, the black card awarded to the Derryman 1st half never was one. But Eoin Bradley got away scot free with a kick on Micheal Lundy near the end. Don't be blaming the ref. Derry lost because they weren't good enough and their indiscipline in giving away frees and then mouthing at the ref after doing so.

On reflection Galway shadded it but as when there was only a point in it, Conor Lane gave a soft free to Galway( when it should have been a free out ).... the referee gave too many soft frees to Galway today... as the game went on Derry probably knew that it wasn't their day.....

didnt think it was a penalty but derry lost because they have a system to play their
best forward bradley 60 yards from the goal.

galway better team but would like to see deery get away from the overdefensive system

I don't expect Galway posters to admit how lucky they have been with decisions particularly today. But the reality is they are a poor enough team, probably play Sligo next but when they get to Quarters it is goodbye with or without soft decisions.

no way was it a penalty, Derry showed poor discipline and wasted most of the game going sideways handpassing, hard to watch, but Galway were better

I would have sympathy for Derry as regards the black card which should have been but apart from that it was their own poor discipline that cost them. Much like it cost Galway against Mayo. Two of Galway's points came from them mouthing off at the ref after conceding a free.

From a neutral perspective the ref had a shocker but saying that not as shocking as Derry's attempts at attacking play. Best team won regardless of the ref.

@sam1884 - next you'll be blaming the ref for Derry going 22 mins 1st half and almost 30 mins 2nd half without scoring.

Listened to it on the radio and even the Galway commentators were saying that the ref was giving soft frees to Galway.

Ref was inconsistent no doubt, but if I was a Derry man I'd be more annoyed with how negative they were, championship better off without them. Galway better team regardless, all be it a poor game

Sky said it wasn't a penalty but then canavan thought Cummins free was soft also. Personally couldn't be sure in penalty but will take the benefit of the doubt. Cummins free was a free even though he had lost the ball by the time he was fouled. Re the first black card, did he trip him with his hand? If he did it was correct decision if he didn't then it wasn't. Did see a right close up.

Could not understand derrys lack of ambition in second half.

I wouldn't underestimate galway just coz it was a poor game. Showed steel today. We all know they don't lack class but today was not a day for the fancy Dan stuff!

Apart from ref galway well worth the win. Decisions can go against u and u have to deal with it. Derrys discipline always let's them down.

Derry gave away silly easy frees in first half when they had control of ball and game.Galway cudnt get a touch for over ten mins.Ref helped Galway with some easy frees, exacerbated by extra yards from Derrys indiscipline.Black card harsh.Conditions tough and a tough game to ref with the defensive set up and slippy ball.
Derry got within a point in second half and were very very poor thereafter.Galway showed more spirit and had better players.Deserved win 100%.Huge decision on penalty and great move by Galway for goal.Small margins in that minute, but credit ref for correct decision re O Boyle dive.Terrible pass but he made a meal of dive instead of using his strength and going for ball.
Great to see Shane Walsh back on field.Impressed with Galways resolve which has been awol for years.
Derry very disappointing...there set up and mentality not geared for chasing a lead.In fairness,Mark Lynch was a huge loss, limped around for first half.Tactics and use of Bradley very poor as was shooting in 2nd half.Better team won by far.Good result for championship too.
