Is Time Up For Davy in Clare?

(Oldest Posts First)

One championship win in past two seasons......relegation to Div 1B in league.......media & panel controversies galore.......methinks its time for a change of leadership at the Banner. Tomás Mulcahy has touted that an intercounty post would be considered if the conditions were right......Liam Sheedy could also be itching to go again......should Clare go outside the county again (a la Len Gaynor) for their next manager???

For Clare people to decide naturally enough. He won an All Ireland with them. He is passionate. He has talent at his disposal. They have been unlucky. I would give him another year. To much talent to keep coming up short though. I imagine Class people will lose patience if they don't get a win soon .

I dont think Tomas Mulcahy would be close to getting the Clare job if Davy vacated. He is unproven at any level. Clare have a long list of past players who have proven themselves in management - ger o loughlin, brian lohan, ollie baker, anthony daly, jamesie o connor, christy o connor - not to mention reputable coaches such as paul kinnerk and louis mulqueen. Its time for Davy to go though.

Good to see Jamesie giving this issue air in the Indo today.

Yes, a very good article. My view on the situation, for what it's worth,(at the end of the day it's for the people of Clare to decide)

Davy Fitzgerald should have offered to resign. Whether it would have been accepted or rejected by the County Board is neither here nor there.

The County Boards announcement that he would continue for the next two years is bizarre.

I cannot understand any Manager in Gaelic games getting anything more than a two year term. It was strange to see the Clare county board give Davy extra time when in the middle of his previous term.

I think the County Board have been very weak in all this! Making reference to how the players are happy to continue with Davy immediately puts added pressure on the team and a sense of responsibility on the decision to keep him on.
Why have a County Board involved in the process of deciding who manages them when all they're going to do is ask the players?

I was expecting a big performance in the Cork game and a massive determination to succeed as a way of making up for whats gone on over the last 15 months. These guys had nothing to give when the game was there for the taking.
I remember Loughnane saying that he knew when it was time to go - Tipp gave Clare a trimming in 2000 I think. I thought Davy would have been thinking the same when he saw what his men had to give towards the end of the Cork game.
I don't expect 2016 to be much better - Clare has become a circus. Players going on local Radio stations to say they are behind the manager shows that despite the fact that their season is over, the next season is already beginning in similar fashion.
Families can be a great thing in GAA, sometimes they can also be the worst!

i see where Jamesie O'Connor and Ger Loughnane have now expressed disquiet on this issue. Things getting interesting off the ball in Banner hurling....could be a long winter yet for Davy.

I said at the time that it cant be good for a squad to see 2 of their players humiliated by the management. The subsequent sanctions imposed on the 2 lads - having to train alone - wasnt the actions of a sensible manager in my opinion.Getting the whole panel to sign a letter all rowing in behind the management looked a little staged thereafter.Has to be some lasting damage to carry on like that.

i see loughnanne having a go at the county chairman michael mcdonagh.totally unjustified in my view.hes basically saying him being chairman of the clare county board is linked to his seeking the nomination for fianna fail at the convention tonight..i know michael and hes a genuine gaa man.the two have history as he was chairman before in the latter stages of gers reign(no ff nomination that time ger?!!?) and ger rubbished him as being from the football end of the county and knew nothing about hurling..no love lost but ger is being unfair in this instance..

Not like Loughnane to be unfair is it??Great hurling brain & i like him as a pundit, but he has a nasty streak to him that rubs a lot of people up the wrong way.
