Galway, Meath, Wexford and now Roscommon

All asked to travel north on the 12th weekend. Do Croke Park want somebody killed. Not a bit of thought was put into these fixture decisions.I have talked to a good few of my friends on the matter. We would all love to go to Omagh but most of us have kids who would want to go and have decided it is not worth the risk. We are told that the 11th night is the worst time, a number of the nationalist population will have gone on holidays to avoid the occasion and that southern registered cars would be targetted. But I suppose thats Croke Park for ye. Dont fancy Meaths chances but regardless this will be the first time I will miss a Meath championship game in over 30 years.

So we should stop our championship because of racist bigots celebrating a gay (how ironic) King William...yeah right!

Toney you will be hard pushed to find when the last person was killed on the 11th night.....if ever!!!!

We went to Donegal for it during the 90s but more because it was a bank holiday. Dont forget they have orange orders in donegal cavan and monaghan.

This is typical of the opinion I see from the south. My friend from Galway was here a few weeks back and asked if his car was save. My car got attacked during a donegal v tyrone game last year (not on the 12th) these things can happen anywhere. You will be much safer up here than in Dublin for a game. The police will have everything under control except maybe in Belfast. I know wexford fans will have no issues as the Derry parades are in coleraine this year. Im not sure where Tyrones are (did you know each county picks a town each year for the parade or did you think we all just strip naked and fight on the streets?)

I am in my mid thirties and have never seen a bomb, gun or riot. Dont believe everything the media shows or tells you!!!

I've attended plenty of games in the north and I can't say I've ever had a bad experience. Frankly I don't think there's even need for a discussion. Media scaremongering by throwing air time at the minority to get the rest a bad name.

I think there will be more orangemen on the Louth/Meath border than derry city come the weekend! And dont forget these bonfires dont take place in city centres. They happen in loyalist housing estates.

I'd say there'll be nothing to worry about. Clones double-header maybe for Tyrone-Meath and Armagh-Galway. Fermanagh and Roscommon in Cavan. Take Derry and Wexford to Navan and the whole thing will be 100%.

Not so worried about the orangemen, I know it's a free weekend for them to let all their racial hatred overtly run free and there's risk involved in that but I wouldn't let it stop me going to the games, don't look for trouble and usually you won't find it.

This could be a mess for travelling fans though if all the northern teams play in their home grounds, Meath and Wexford fans will be travelling up the same road and we're going to have to cross the Galway fans along the way. Now granted there probably won't be many travelling from those 3 counties (particularly Wexford) but it's still less than ideal.

Amazing that they STILL don't have times and venues confirmed..

6 days out from a GAA Championship match and teams don't know where they're playing, it's clear the GAA were awaiting the outcome of the weekend's games and draw this morning which will lead to think that there will be games at neutral venues or as part of double-headers.

xxB3B0Stunnahxx clearly you have been out of the country for some time. South derry isnt exactly a loyalist hotspot and either is derry city

Only possible chance of trouble is if the games are at 7 and go to extra time. if they are at 3 then you wont even see a thing

I saw the Meath Fan Page on FB posting a similar point. Frankly I was embarrassed. Some people still living in the dark ages it seems. Go or don't go, but don't come out whinging about being worried something might happen to you. Ridiculous.

Christ man it's not the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant you're going to. Thankfully things have moved on a lot and anyone travelling up shouldn't experience any problems.

CamanEileen long journey? 4 hours isnt that bad. Takes us 3.30 getting from derry city to dublin and about 3 going to a 'home' game in clones. 99% sure this game will be in Dungiven so 4 hours (about the same as the down fans last week) will be plenty of time

Some people worry far too much. Just go, support your county wherever they are playing and enjoy your games, let the PUL folk have their 'celebration'. By virtue of geography and shifting demographics, those of us west of the Bann tend not to live back to back with our protestant cousins, unlike Belfast, and therefore there tends to be plenty of room for manoeuvre where we don't have to come in to conflict at this time of year.

I think it is scaremongering. Teams drawn first at home simple at that. I go to as many of the Galway games as possible and would not be concerned. I have found Northern supporters and venues to be quite hospitable. As a related thing a guy mentioned to me over the wend that the times may have been delayed until they knew the pairings for the hurling qualifier round on the same wend (for tv purposes). If that was the case it would be an absolute disgrace as delaying Round 2B in football is totally unfair for the teams involved for planning etc tv or no tv.
