Being Realistic : are Donegal beatable ?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Best system,
Incredibly committed players,
Physically strongest and fittest team,
Pace,
Experience,
A good Manager,
One of the best and most influential players in the modern game (Michael Murphy),
Top class Goalkeeper,
The best Fullback in modern game, by a mile.

This all adds up to one very strong unit.

I don't think they will be beat.

Yes they are. Derry could have beat them and there are better teams than Derry out there. As a similar post suggested any time on any day can be beat

Yes.

That isn't to say they aren't a good side, they are playing good stuff at the minute. But like Kerry and Mayo, an injury to a big player could see them fall back into the pack. In fairness, that is probably the way it should be. What a great championship it would be if all the top teams were like that.

Of course they are. Any team is beatable .
doesn't matter how hard you train , what players are in your team or what system you have learned inside out.
But they have a strong mind set and that what ticks them over and their biggest strength. They never panic. They have a job and they do it.
Any team that goes out thinkn they are better than the opposition and shows them no respect deserves to get beat.

All teams beatable - but some boost McLoone being back, massively underrated.

I'm wondering if I inadvertently took some drugs this morning reading this thread.

Anyone who was in Clones for the Derry game would have a quick answer.

Best system, Kerry have that
Incredibly committed players, True of all the top teams
Physically strongest and fittest team, Dubs, Mayo, Kerry .........
Pace, Dubs have the most pace, we have it in every line
Experience, all the top teams have it
A good Manager, again look at Dubs and Kerry
One of the best and most influential players in the modern game (Michael Murphy), Dubs and Kerry possibly have more of these type of players
Top class Goalkeeper, sold the All-Ireland down the river last year
The best Fullback in modern game, by a mile.
ROC

This all adds up to one very strong unit.

I don't think they will be beat.

An Ulster title would be great again, the most precious provincial prize in Gaelic games along with the Munster hurling title.

After that, we don't have the depth of Dublin or Kerry.

They are the big two and destined to meet down the road. Within that, I think Kerry can really put it up to Dublin when that time comes. Dublin look sensational, tactically now they have it sussed. They won't be caught this year. But Kerry have the confidence, utter belief and class to push the sky blues.

Are Donegal beatable? Such Garbage!! Monaghan will give Donegal everything and personally I think they will come out on top. Neither DOnegal or Monaghan will make the All Ireland final. Its the old foes of Dublin v Kerry with Dublin to win.

Until they get stuffed by 15 points when they face the blue juggernaut in late September

cowsinthehills indeed, cowsinyourhead more like. If there is one thing I can't stand is supporters running down their own team & far too many Donegal posters are engaging in it.

While I agree that the Ulster final will in all likelihood be a tight game if both teams are in top form, the only way I can see Monaghan winning is if Donegal put in a performance like the Derry performance.

All other things being equal Donegal are a better unit with a the best defensive unit in the country & multiple scoring threats.

As for beating Dublin or Kerry, that's another day's work but, for me, both are beatable & a performance like that against Dublin last year or Armagh would give both of them their fill.

yes...the ideal way to beat them is to sit back....i would fancy kerry v them myself...would fancy donegal v the dubs though...gaa has become a good bit about matchups with all the new tactics...makes things a lot less straight forward

Although I'm convinced we would be competitive against any opposition I would fear meeting the Dubs to be honest. They see us as the reason they aren't current AI champions and would need no motivation if we were to meet.

When at full strength I would rank them as number 2 in the country. I think they would beat Kerry as they would have learned a lot from last year. I think they would beat Mayo although depends on how they start, if they conceded heavily early on then they could struggle. I think they would take Monaghan, too powerful for them and have more firepower IMO. I think the Dubs have fine tuned their approach this year and learned from last year's semi and on that basis I think the Jacks would turn them over. I wasn't confident when we met them last year but I would be a bit more optimistic this year. Anything could happen though and they are capable of going all the way but only if they keep their key forwards injury free. Lose two inside forwards and I don't think they would have the squad depth to cope.

They are very beatable. Do people forget the year they had in 2013 defending their AI? Mayo absolutely wiped the floor with them and they were comfortably beaten in the Ulster final after scraping past a rubbish Down team in the semi final.

Donegal are very much a Johnny come lately county, GAA wouldn't have been all that big up there.
