Was it a point??

(Oldest Posts First)

As i had nothing better to do i decided to take a trip down to Clones for the Derry Donegal game. What better way to spend your saturday than watching Ulster football.
Anyway I was sat behnd the goals Donegal were shooting into during the second half. With the score 1-8 0-09 Derry had a shot that looked like a clear point. Derry seemed to be gaining momentum at this stage so if they pulled it back to a one point game god knows what would have happened. Can anyone clarify if that ball went over? From where i was standing it looked to be well inside the post. The steward who was standing infront of me also thought it was over. Can anyone who watched it on the TV let me know.

Not sure what instance you are talking about, but since Christy Toyed had a clear point ruled out, we'll call it evens

When was Toyes point ruled out? I think it was Mckaigue who had the point ruled out. I'd say it was about 15 minutes to go.

A couple of minutes before the goal, one umpire waved it as a point, the other decided it was wide. Looked to be clearly over the bar.

I can't remember seeing that. I was down the other end behind those goals. But McKaigues was definitely a point.

But if Toyes was a point I wouldn't say that this incident cancelled it out. I would be asking serious questions of the officiating. How can this be allowed to happen?

Toye's effort was an even clearer point that wasn't given to be fair

A solution would be to extend Hawkeye to one provincial ground each. For example Clones,Semple and Castlebar. Not ideal for Munster and Connect since they rotate big games, but it would be a start

With 7 in-game officials you'd think they'd be able to judge if the ball has between the posts. They could save a few quid and get a 7 in 1 robot to do the reffing, linesmen and umpire duties. No need for the black card, he'd know who to give yellow and red cards to. We could call him "Not McEneaney" !

I have always maintained that there should be an upper crossbar. If anything goes above it then it should be waved wide. You could also have 2 back posts and a net between the upper and lower crossbars . It would be cheaper to maintain that hawkeye and would do away with all these difficult decisions when the ball is higher thay the uprights.
