Shane Curran made an excellent point the last day on the Hard Shoulder Podcast and he has made the point before about the GAA not supporting the smaller counties better. Dublin now have world class facilities and support whilst the rest of Leinster and the middle of the country is being left behind. shaggykev (Donegal) - Posts: 184 - 26/06/2015 19:57:03 1743260 Link 0 |
I would prefer that we have 8 Quality Stadiums, 2 per Province. GaryMc82 (Derry) - Posts: 3017 - 26/06/2015 21:23:10 1743303 Link 0 |
So build another stadium just so Dublin can play away from from Croker? Possibly one of the poorest reasons to build anything. We have stadiums littered all over the country, none are ever going to be used to even pay to keep them open. We have decrepit existing stadiums and facilities across the country - some next door to anything proposed in Athlone, they all need upgrading and a revamp. arock (Dublin) - Posts: 4892 - 27/06/2015 14:03:58 1743397 Link 0 |
Shaggy a far better idea would be to build a proper 30k stadium at Hyde Park in Roscommon. There is no site in Athlone, Roscommon town is as central as athlone. A connaught final would never be held in it and Mayo and Sligo would both have to drive past Hyde Park to get to Athlone and if the Hyde could not hold a final then the final woiuld be in either Castlebar or Galway not athlone. Tullamore and Portloaise are well able to hold those Leinster games including a Dublin quarter final. Plenty of grounds can hold those other games you mention including Mullingar and i doubt Galway will accept not having home advantage for the Leinster hurling for ever. Most of those counties you mentioned have bought land, are building or have build centre of excellence, it would make more sense for the GAA to give them money for this. ros1 (Roscommon) - Posts: 1211 - 27/06/2015 14:54:59 1743406 Link 0 |
A white elephant proposal. Typical Shane Curran. Such a ground would belong to nobody and I suspect nobody would ever want to play there. Onion Breath (Carlow) - Posts: 1412 - 27/06/2015 15:29:15 1743417 Link 0 |
