Sorry, so you expect sky to pay good money to show games and not get any decent ones?

We should be happy that sky are looking to invest in our sport. The real issue is, people don't see where the money goes, or any tangible improvements that this money is making, so we don't care about the money as it doesn't affect us. If we seen stadia being improved with sky money for example, we would probably be far more welcoming. However, that isn't an issue for sky, it is an issue with the way the gaa are using the money. It is coming in, we just don't know what is happening to it...

If you look at what Sky have done to fans of Premier League football ............ Newcastle & Southampton have regularly met each other on Monday nights at 8PM which means a half day off work the day of the game & the day after, little or no sleep and long coach treks.

GAA is a two sided coin at the minute - some are benefiting financially and some are not. If those who are, realise that those who are not, will only take so much, then things will be fine. But if players & fans are treated poorly, there could be a revolt of sorts - as in fans staying away from the games or players withdrawing their services.

That's probably the most tired, lazy and poorly thought out cliche regarding the Gaa, OF COURSE they want to make as much money as possible (call it greedy if you want), how else is an organisation supposed to survive or grow? Is everybody who earns money greedy? what's the limit on what you can earn before it turns from making money into being greed? and who's the adjudicator on that?

Htaem I agree but the GAA is about family and community first. Getting kids home at 11 or 12 on a sat night is not the best.

I take the point that 7pm isn't the best throw in time for the counties involved, 5 would be better and this is an issue fans could take up with the Ulster council and or the Gaa.

Play the game at 5 and kids and parents have to decide between going to their Saturday afternoon blitz and the county game. It means people working on the Saturday can't attend the game either, so getting fixtures to suit everybody is very difficult.

Slayer, I don't mean to be a Pedantic Pat (.......I love being a Pedantic Pat!!!!) but have you any evidence that Newcastle & Southampton 'regularly' play each other on Monday nights?
I think it's quite the opposite, in fact.
Had a quick look there and it seems that since 2000, they've only actually met on two occasions that were not either a Saturday or a Sunday. One being a Tuesday and one being a Wednesday. Now, admittedly those two days are no different than a Monday night in terms of practicality but my point still stands. I don't think the Premier league are going out of their way to purposely fix these games for such times. Same applies to the GAA.

Slayer just picked Newcastle and Southampton because they're the furthest distance apart in the Premier League, of course they don't play each season regularly on Monday nights. Don't think the same travel distance and missing work applies so much on a Monday night. I like Monday night Premier league games. I work shifts and half the year I'd have Monday off so, if I'm let, I could go for a few pints and watch a live game.

Why are the GAA greedy? There were 7 o'clock qualifier games before the Sky deal. What parents would consider bringing children to a 7 o'clock game ? Do you think there'll be a throng os tired and hungry screaming 3 year olds at the match ? They've a few choices, don't bring them, get a sitter or one partner goes. Lucky them that can work a Monday to Friday and head to the game. It should be a cracker.

The GAA do a lot of things that we see as wrong. Damned if they do, damned if they don't. My daughter is going to go on her first Cúl camp in a few weeks and she can't wait. No doubt some of these summer camps are subsidised by Kellogs but the GAA have to be credited for them too. Hard to go wrong for €55 for the week. If you've any proactive proposals for the organisation of the inter-county GAA season and when games should be shown live on TV to suit the majority , why don't you post them ?

The biggest losers in this are BBC Northern Ireland

They dont even get highlights of this game. The two Ulster semi finals and they got to show neither live. Thats a bit of a joke and somebody has dropped the ball here with the contract.

I understand Sky want exclusivity for a certain amount of games but the beeb shouldnt be left out in the cold as for some Nordies, its their only way of watching Live GAA.

I'm pretty sure the beeb didnt get any of the All Ireland quarter finals, semi finals or final last year either

Have Newcastle and Southampton really met each other on Monday nights on several occasions...???
How would you make things more even financially?

So no games ever under lights then.....
What about All Ireland finals/semis in Dublin and teams playing at 4 and if from anywhere south of Tipp etc and the further west/north areas it will be very late and 11/12 when people are home.
Should all games kick off much earlier then...

I live in Donegal and haven't met anybody who has a problem with the day and time of the game. I am a neutral so I like the idea of the Saturday night games. Ok it doesn't suit everyone but I thought we had moved on from the sky bitchfest. Qualifiers and other games have been on RTE at the same time on a Saturday, why is this game such an issue?

Lads I was dead against sky as I tought it was gona isolate poor old people from watching the games they loved but in fairness it isn't, rte are still showing a good few games and I don't know would rte show a lot of the games that sky are showing anyway.
Anyway I got sky sports last week for 3 months for €10 a month so happy enough with that and people along the road are welcome to call in and watch the games and the wife will bring down the old uncles for a few hours as well .
No I have to say I was wrong about sky, and once they don't go too mad I'm happy enough with them getting a few games.
